Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will go on sale September 18, 2026, following their official unveiling at Apple’s September event. Pre-orders for both models open September 12, giving customers less than a week between ordering and general availability. The new Pro phones arrive with higher starting prices, an A20 Pro chip and a revised camera system.

In the United States, the iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max begins at $1,299. That represents a $100 increase over the starting prices of the equivalent iPhone 17 Pro models. Both devices begin with 256GB of storage, with higher-capacity configurations extending through 2TB for buyers who need additional space.

Apple is offering the new Pro lineup in four finishes: Black, Glacier, Silver and Burgundy. The overall design continues the direction established by last year’s Pro models, but Apple has made changes around the display and internal hardware. One of the most visible differences is a smaller Dynamic Island, reducing the amount of screen space occupied by the front-facing sensor area.

The biggest internal upgrade is the A20 Pro chip, manufactured on a 2-nanometer process. Apple’s latest silicon includes a six-core CPU, an upgraded GPU and expanded neural processing hardware intended to accelerate on-device AI workloads. The company is also pairing the chip with an updated vapor-chamber cooling system designed to improve sustained performance during demanding tasks such as gaming, video editing and AI processing.

Camera hardware receives one of the more significant changes this generation. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max introduce a dynamic-aperture 48-megapixel main camera using a six-blade iris, allowing the camera to physically adjust how much light reaches the sensor. The system is intended to provide greater control over exposure and depth of field while improving performance in changing lighting conditions.

Apple is also expanding the phones’ professional video capabilities. The new models support 4K Dolby Vision HDR time-lapse recording alongside additional manual controls for photography and video. Apple has continued positioning its Pro iPhones as tools for filmmakers and content creators, building on features such as ProRes, Log recording and external production workflows introduced across previous generations.

Connectivity is being updated through Apple’s new C2 modem. The second-generation in-house cellular modem is designed to improve 5G performance and power efficiency as Apple continues reducing its dependence on third-party modem hardware. Combined with the A20 Pro and updated cooling system, the modem forms part of Apple’s broader effort to control more of the iPhone’s core silicon internally.

Battery life has also increased, with Apple rating the iPhone 18 Pro Max for up to 45 hours of video playback. Actual endurance will depend on usage, network conditions and display settings, but the larger figure continues the company’s recent focus on improving efficiency rather than relying solely on raw battery capacity. The 2nm A20 Pro and C2 modem should both contribute to those gains.

Apple is also adding new content-authenticity features to the camera workflow. The iPhone 18 Pro models support standards intended to help identify the origin and modification history of images, alongside Apple’s own cryptographic Reference Image system. The move comes as smartphone makers increasingly address the difficulty of distinguishing traditional photography from AI-generated or heavily altered content.

The September 18 release means the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will reach stores nine days after their announcement. Pre-orders begin September 12, with the 256GB iPhone 18 Pro starting at $1,199 and the iPhone 18 Pro Max at $1,299. Additional regional pricing and carrier offers will vary by market.
