EA Sports has detailed NHL 27 Update 2, with the second post-launch update tuning how Boarding and Charging penalties are called during games. The update also addresses gameplay bugs, crashes, desynchronization issues and other problems across Connected Franchise, World of Chel and Hockey Ultimate Team. Update 2 is scheduled to go live on September 29 at 1 p.m. ET, with EA warning of possible server instability for up to an hour after deployment.
The changes to physical-contact penalties are among the most direct gameplay adjustments in the update. EA says it has tuned penalty calls for both Boarding and Charging, although the developer has not provided specific threshold values or explained exactly how the detection has changed. That means players will need to experience the updated system themselves to determine how much the calls differ from the launch version. The change follows player feedback collected through EA’s NHL Feedback Portal.
Several other on-ice fixes are included alongside the penalty adjustments. EA has fixed a possible online desynchronization following a penalty sequence in World of Chel and corrected an issue that could cause a player’s arm or hand to twitch after releasing a pass while glide skating. Hockey Ultimate Team receives a fix for a rare desync following a missed penalty shot in Wildcard, while Ones gets an adjustment to its AFK mode logic.

Connected Franchise also receives a substantial collection of fixes focused on stability, league management and roster behavior. EA has addressed occasional crashes on league and game setup screens, problems with Commissioner Tools and issues involving league invitations when cross-play is disabled. The update also fixes incorrect Goals Against tracking, prevents Fill Lines from placing forwards and defensemen in the wrong positions, and resolves several presentation problems involving custom rosters and Player of the Game animations.
Hockey Ultimate Team accounts for another large portion of Update 2. The update fixes crashes and soft locks affecting HUT, including problems when entering the mode, editing lines, opening Sets and starting Cup Chase matches. EA has also corrected issues involving the Auction House, Collection filters, Coach Chemistry, Objectives, Wildcard and Store navigation. Several interface problems are being cleaned up as well, including missing Ability Point indicators and incorrect notification badges.
World of Chel receives two stability fixes aimed at EASHL Clubs and Club Practice. EA has also addressed a range of audio, presentation and visual problems, including repetitive commentary references, arena intro sounds, goal celebration effects, camera clipping and player-model issues. The update additionally corrects various jersey, hair, equipment and crowd clipping problems that could appear during matches or presentation sequences.
Update 2 is not limited to fixes. EA is adding updated center-ice designs for numerous NHL teams, including the Anaheim Ducks, Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks, Colorado Avalanche, Florida Panthers, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators, Pittsburgh Penguins, San Jose Sharks, St. Louis Blues, Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks and Winnipeg Jets. Updated designs are also being added across the AHL, ECHL, OHL, QMJHL and WHL.
The update follows NHL 27’s first post-launch patch earlier in September, continuing EA’s cycle of gameplay tuning and bug fixes during the opening weeks of the season. For players primarily concerned with physical play, the Boarding and Charging adjustments will be among the most immediately noticeable changes. For everyone else, the broader focus on crashes, desynchronization, mode-specific problems and presentation issues makes Update 2 a wide-ranging maintenance release rather than a single gameplay rebalance.
