Nvidia’s next GeForce generation and most of AMD’s upcoming RDNA 5 gaming GPUs may not arrive until 2028, according to a new claim from hardware leaker Kepler_L2. The reported exception is AMD’s AT2 GPU, which is said to remain scheduled for 2027. Neither Nvidia nor AMD has officially announced these consumer roadmaps, so the timing should be treated as unconfirmed.
Kepler_L2 made the claim while responding to discussion on the AnandTech forums about when Nvidia’s next gaming architecture could reach the market. After dismissing a separate suggestion that an RTX 6090 could launch during 2027, the leaker said AT2 is the only GPU expected to release next year and that everything else from both AMD and Nvidia is planned for 2028. The statement did not provide specific quarters, model names or a reason for the reported schedule.
If accurate, the timing would place Nvidia’s expected Rubin-based GeForce generation, commonly referred to as the RTX 60 series, outside 2027 entirely. Nvidia has not formally announced an RTX 60 product family or confirmed that Rubin will be used under that branding for consumer graphics cards. The company’s Rubin architecture is already associated with its data-center roadmap, but translating that architecture into GeForce products remains the subject of leaks rather than an official gaming announcement.

AMD appears to be taking a slightly different route. AT2 is widely reported to be one of the dies in the company’s next-generation RDNA 5 family and is expected to appear before the remainder of the lineup. Previous reporting based on Kepler_L2’s leaks has also linked AT2 to Microsoft’s next Xbox hardware, often referred to as Project Helix, with the console reportedly using the same underlying GPU building block rather than a heavily customized graphics design.
That does not necessarily mean the 2027 desktop product would be identical to the GPU inside Microsoft’s console. Clock speeds, compute-unit configurations, memory systems and power targets can differ significantly even when hardware is based on the same die or architecture. Microsoft and AMD have confirmed a broader next-generation Xbox silicon partnership, but the detailed AT2 specifications circulating publicly remain unofficial.
Earlier leaks have suggested AMD is also preparing additional RDNA 5 dies above and below AT2, including parts frequently referred to as AT0, AT3 and AT4. Under Kepler_L2’s latest timeline, those products would not arrive until 2028. That would leave AT2 as AMD’s only genuinely new gaming GPU family member during 2027 if the reported roadmap remains unchanged.
The claim also complicates expectations around Nvidia’s product cadence. The RTX 50 series launched from the Blackwell generation, and speculation has continued around potential RTX 50 Super refreshes with increased memory capacities. Separate leakers have recently expressed doubt that those refreshed cards will appear as previously expected, although Kepler_L2’s statement specifically concerned new GPUs and does not clearly establish whether refresh products based on existing silicon are included.
Memory availability has frequently been suggested as one possible reason for slower consumer GPU rollouts, particularly as demand for HBM and other memory products remains elevated because of AI infrastructure spending. However, Kepler_L2 did not attribute the reported 2028 timing to memory shortages, AI demand or any other cause. Those explanations remain industry speculation unless AMD or Nvidia confirms changes to its own launch plans.
The latest claim also conflicts with other recent rumors that placed Nvidia’s next GeForce flagship in 2027. Conflicting roadmap leaks are common this far ahead of launch, particularly because internal schedules can change as silicon development, manufacturing capacity and market conditions evolve. Without an official product announcement from either company, 2027 and 2028 timing should therefore be viewed as provisional rather than fixed release dates.
For PC gamers, the most significant implication would be an unusually long gap before a full generational replacement for current Radeon and GeForce cards. AMD could still introduce AT2 during 2027, while Nvidia may continue selling or refreshing its existing Blackwell lineup until its next architecture is ready. For now, however, the only concrete claim from the latest leak is that AT2 remains planned for 2027 while the rest of AMD’s next-generation GPU lineup and Nvidia’s succeeding gaming generation are reportedly targeting 2028.
