NVIDIA has released RTX Remix 1.6, introducing DLSS 5 3D-Guided Neural Rendering, expanded Multi Frame Generation support, and new tools for PC game modders. The update is now available in Portal with RTX and the Half-Life 2 RTX demo, while a separate RTX Remix beta brings path tracing to Minecraft: Java Edition.
NVIDIA detailed the additions in an October 28 announcement, following the initial RTX Remix 1.6 release on October 23. The update expands the company’s RTX-powered game remastering platform with AI-assisted rendering, improved asset creation workflows, and compatibility with Windows on ARM devices, including RTX Spark systems.
The most significant addition is native support for DLSS 5 3D-Guided Neural Rendering. The technology uses AI to enhance the appearance of rendered scenes, including lighting, material details, and reflections. Modders can adjust the effect through artistic controls in the RTX Remix Toolkit, allowing them to configure its appearance for individual scenes.

NVIDIA demonstrated the technology using an in-development Fallout 4 RTX project from modder Sparkles/Kim2091. The example showed changes to reflections, lighting response, clothing materials, and character shading when neural rendering was enabled.
RTX Remix 1.6 also introduces DLSS Multi Frame Generation options up to 6X on supported hardware, alongside a beta Performance Mode for Frame Generation using Preset C. Both features are available in the updated Portal with RTX and Half-Life 2 RTX demo.
Players can access the new rendering settings by opening the RTX Remix graphics menu with Alt+X. DLSS 3D-Guided Neural Rendering can be configured through the Developer Settings menu, while Frame Generation options are available under the general graphics settings.
The improvements extend NVIDIA’s work on RTX-powered game modifications, including projects such as Left 4 Dead RTX, which adds ray tracing and DLSS 4.5 to Left 4 Dead 2.
Alongside the platform update, NVIDIA has released an open-source RTX Remix beta for Minecraft: Java Edition 1.21.1. The mod allows players to render Minecraft worlds using DLSS-accelerated path tracing, introducing more advanced lighting, reflections, and material effects.
The Minecraft beta includes a demonstration world created by Blockworks and a high-resolution physically based materials resource pack from NVIDIA Lightspeed Studios. Players can explore the provided environment or use the resources as a starting point for their own creations.
NVIDIA says its RTX Dynamic Illumination technology supports thousands of shadow-casting lights simultaneously. RTX Global Illumination adds indirect lighting, allowing sunlight and other light sources to bounce through environments and illuminate interior spaces. The implementation also supports path-traced reflections, volumetric lighting, water refraction, and subsurface scattering.
The Minecraft mod is a separate installation rather than an automatic update to the game. NVIDIA specifies Minecraft: Java Edition 1.21.1, Windows 10 or Windows 11, and a GeForce RTX 30-series or newer GPU with driver 616.92 or later. RTX Spark systems require driver 621.01 or newer.
Players must install the mod files and configure the Minecraft launcher, while the demonstration world and materials pack are distributed separately. The beta’s source code is also available for developers interested in extending its functionality.
Beyond the rendering additions, RTX Remix 1.6 integrates ComfyUI 2.0 workflows for AI-assisted texture and mesh creation. The updated pipeline provides more control over generated assets, including whether outputs replace existing resources or are added to a project.
The release also introduces native Windows on ARM support, additional sparse rendering options, and improvements to shadow rendering. NVIDIA has addressed several issues involving reflections, geometry flickering, texture streaming, particles, and volumetric effects.
Modders can download RTX Remix 1.6 through the NVIDIA app or NVIDIA’s GitHub repository. Existing RTX Remix projects can also be updated manually, although NVIDIA cautions that compatibility and visual quality may vary until individual mod creators release officially supported updates.
For players, the immediate additions are the updated Portal with RTX and Half-Life 2 RTX demo, alongside the Minecraft Java Edition beta. For modders, RTX Remix 1.6 expands the rendering and development tools available for creating ray-traced remasters of older PC games.
