Nintendo has announced Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy, an expanded version of the 2023 strategy adventure launching November 12, 2026. The new edition was revealed during Nintendo’s September 9 Direct and adds Switch 2-specific features alongside a substantial new challenge mode. Existing Pikmin 4 owners on Nintendo Switch will also be able to purchase an upgrade pack through the Nintendo eShop rather than buying the full game again.
One of the most unusual Switch 2 additions is support for voice commands through the console’s built-in microphone. Players will be able to speak directly to Oatchi, Pikmin 4’s Rescue Pup companion, and issue commands without relying entirely on button inputs. Nintendo’s presentation also showed that players can praise Oatchi verbally, adding a small character-focused use for the Switch 2 microphone beyond straightforward gameplay commands.
The larger addition is Dandori Academy, a new mode built around Pikmin’s long-standing emphasis on efficiency and planning. Players are challenged to collect treasure as quickly as possible across purpose-built stages, earning medals based on their performance and comparing scores against friends and other players through online leaderboards. Nintendo has confirmed three difficulty levels, giving the mode room to accommodate both newcomers and players already comfortable with Pikmin 4’s existing Dandori Challenges.
Dandori Academy will eventually include 72 stages, although Nintendo says those stages will be released over time rather than all being available on launch day. The mode also introduces scheduled exams that take place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, providing recurring challenges for players who want to test their efficiency under different conditions. Nintendo has not yet detailed the full rollout schedule for all 72 stages or how frequently new challenges will be added after November 12.
The expanded edition builds on systems already central to Pikmin 4. The original game asks players to explore large areas, rescue castaways, collect treasure and manage squads of Pikmin with different abilities while working alongside Oatchi. Dandori Challenges and Dandori Battles already test how efficiently players can allocate their Pikmin and complete tasks under time pressure, so Dandori Academy extends an existing pillar of the game rather than introducing an unrelated mode.
Pikmin 4 originally launched for Nintendo Switch in July 2023 and introduced Ice Pikmin, Glow Pikmin and Oatchi while expanding the series’ exploration structure. The game also includes caves, nighttime expeditions, local co-op support and the ability to rewind time after costly mistakes. Nintendo has continued updating the original Switch version since launch, including a free update in late 2025 that added Decor Pikmin and additional creature activity options.
The Switch 2 edition represents a more substantial paid upgrade than those earlier free additions. Nintendo is offering a physical version of Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy, with pre-orders beginning through Nintendo Store and selected retailers following the September Direct. Owners of the existing Switch release can instead pre-order the upgrade pack digitally, although Nintendo has not yet published detailed pricing information for every region.
Nintendo has not provided a complete technical breakdown for the Switch 2 version. Resolution and frame-rate targets have not been formally announced, so the confirmed improvements currently center on the microphone functionality and Dandori Academy content rather than graphics or performance. More technical details could emerge closer to release.
The announcement adds another upgraded first-party title to Nintendo’s growing Switch 2 lineup. Several existing games are receiving new editions built around additional content or hardware-specific features, while others are being brought to the system as native ports. In Pikmin 4’s case, Nintendo is combining a platform upgrade with a sizable new challenge mode rather than simply reissuing the original game.
