A fan-made Team Fortress 2 VR conversion has received its own Steam store page, offering a full virtual reality adaptation of Valve’s multiplayer shooter. Team Fortress 2: VR Mod is being developed and published by SaladWorks Interactive, with all nine original classes being rebuilt around motion controls and physical weapon interactions. The project is listed as coming soon, with no release date announced yet.
Rather than running as a separate game inspired by TF2, the mod is designed as a conversion of the original Team Fortress 2 experience. SaladWorks says it is integrating VR mechanics directly into TF2 while preserving the existing maps, modes, visual style and general balance. Players will still have access to familiar modes including Payload, Control Points and Mann vs. Machine, but character movement and weapons are being adapted for tracked controllers.
Weapons are one of the project’s biggest changes. The developers are rebuilding interactions so actions that normally happen through mouse and keyboard inputs can be performed physically, including pumping the Scout’s Scattergun, manually feeding shells into shotguns and throwing Jarate. Melee weapons support motion-controlled swings, while independent arm movement and six-degrees-of-freedom tracking allow players to manipulate equipment more naturally.

All nine Team Fortress 2 classes are planned for the VR conversion rather than limiting the mod to characters that translate easily to motion controls. That creates some unusual design challenges, particularly for highly mobile classes such as Scout and Soldier, but SaladWorks says its goal is to keep weapons responsive and fast enough to preserve TF2’s existing pace. The Steam page does not currently detail how mechanics such as rocket jumping will work in VR.
Accessibility options are also planned for players who do not want a highly physical experience. Team Fortress 2: VR Mod supports seated play, comfort vignettes and automatic reloading as alternatives to some of its more immersive interactions. That should allow the developers to retain the tactile VR systems without requiring every player to perform the same physical movements during lengthy matches.
The project will not separate VR players into their own isolated multiplayer ecosystem. SaladWorks says VR and non-VR users will be able to play together, provided everyone is running the TF2VR client and connecting to a compatible server. That includes standard competitive matches as well as cooperative Mann vs. Machine sessions, potentially making it easier for VR users to play with existing groups that do not own headsets.
The Steam listing also shows support for online PvP, online co-op, cross-platform multiplayer, Steam achievements, Steam Cloud and tracked controllers. A dedicated server application for the project has already appeared through Steam’s backend, indicating that community-hosted servers are part of the planned infrastructure. Players will need to own Team Fortress 2 on Steam, although Valve’s original game remains free to play.
For VR hardware, SaladWorks says any PC headset supported by SteamVR should be compatible. The listed minimum specifications include a GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 580, 8GB of RAM and a Core i5-4590 or Ryzen 1600, while the recommended tier moves to a GTX 1080 or Radeon RX 5700 and 16GB of RAM. The developers note that tracked controllers and enough physical space to lean and move will provide the highest-fidelity experience.
The mod’s arrival also comes as Valve itself prepares another major push into VR hardware with Steam Frame, giving Steam’s VR ecosystem considerably more attention in 2026. Team Fortress 2: VR Mod is not a Valve project, however, and its Steam page explicitly states that SaladWorks is not affiliated with, partnered with or endorsed by Valve.
Team Fortress 2: VR Mod does not yet have a launch date, but its Steam page is now live and can be wishlisted. If development reaches release as described, it will offer a rare full-scale attempt to translate TF2’s complete class roster, weapon systems and multiplayer structure into modern VR while still allowing traditional desktop players to join the same matches.
