Valve appears to be preparing the Steam Frame storefront for launch, with pricing for the VR headset beginning to surface through Steam itself. SteamDB highlighted the Steam Frame on September 14 as users started finding prices attached to the hardware through Steam search, even though the main store listing was still showing the headset as coming soon at the time of writing. The clearest verified regional pricing currently visible is £889 for the 256GB model and £1,089 for the 1TB configuration in the UK.

Canadian users have also reported two corresponding prices through Steam search: C$1,529 for the lower-capacity model and C$1,859 for the higher-capacity version. Those figures line up with the two storage configurations that have appeared in Valve’s backend preparations, although regional availability and the exact contents of each package should still be treated cautiously until Valve publishes its full launch announcement. A confirmed US price was not reliably visible through the sources available at publication time, so converting the UK or Canadian amounts into an assumed dollar MSRP would be premature.

The appearance of actual store pricing is a stronger launch signal than the backend changes that have been accumulating over the past several weeks. SteamDB previously tracked repeated modifications to Steam Frame packages, while a reservation system resembling the one used for Valve’s Steam Machine was also discovered in Steam’s backend. Valve has continued to list the headset for a summer 2026 launch, leaving little room before the season officially ends on September 22.

The latest movement follows an accidental early look at the retail hardware over the weekend. A ShortCircuit video briefly went live ahead of schedule and showed the headset being unboxed and used, while also revealing a $60 Ergonomics Accessories Kit. The early Steam Frame hands-on video provided one of the clearest signs that review hardware and finalized retail packaging were already in circulation ahead of Valve’s formal launch.

Steam Frame is Valve’s first new VR headset since the Valve Index, but it takes a substantially different approach. Rather than relying on an external PC and lighthouse base stations, the headset can operate independently using a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, 16GB of LPDDR5X memory and SteamOS. It also supports wireless PC VR streaming through a dedicated 6GHz adapter, allowing higher-end games to be rendered on a gaming PC while the Frame acts as the display and tracking hardware.

Valve has equipped the headset with dual 2160×2160 LCD panels, pancake lenses, inside-out tracking cameras and eye tracking. The latter is also used for foveated streaming, which prioritizes image quality in the portion of the display the player is currently looking at. Steam Frame weighs significantly less at the front than the original Index and moves much of the battery mass to the rear strap to improve balance.

The pricing is particularly notable because Valve originally said it hoped to make Steam Frame cheaper than the $999 Valve Index full kit. That target became less certain during 2026 as memory and storage costs increased, with Valve publicly acknowledging that component pricing had forced it to reconsider both its hardware schedule and pricing plans. The Steam Machine ultimately launched at a higher price than many early expectations, increasing speculation that Steam Frame could also move beyond Valve’s initial target.

Valve has been preparing the software side of the launch at the same time. The company introduced its Great on Frame compatibility program for games capable of running directly on the headset, with the verified catalog expanding rapidly during the summer. Steam Frame can also run conventional PC games locally through Valve’s ARM compatibility work and Proton, while PC VR titles can be streamed from a separate computer.

What remains unclear is whether the prices appearing through Steam search are intended to become publicly purchasable immediately or are being exposed shortly before Valve enables its reservation system. The main Steam listing still indicated that the hardware was coming soon when the prices surfaced, and Valve had not yet issued a corresponding announcement confirming ordering times or shipment dates.

The combination of visible regional pricing, repeated backend package changes, finished retail hardware and an apparent reservation system suggests that Valve’s Steam Frame rollout is now much closer than earlier launch speculation. For now, the UK prices of £889 for 256GB and £1,089 for 1TB are the most concrete new information, while buyers in other regions will need to wait for Valve to publish the complete pricing and reservation details.
