Riyo Games and publisher Balor Games have announced that Threads of Time will launch in Summer 2027 for PC via Steam, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The announcement confirms a release window for the upcoming 2.5D turn-based RPG and adds two Nintendo platforms to its previously announced PC and Xbox versions.
The release window was revealed on October 28, 2026, alongside a new trailer published by Balor Games. Although the developers have narrowed down the launch period, an exact release date has not been announced.
Threads of Time is a time-traveling RPG inspired by classic Japanese role-playing games, particularly Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy. Developed using Unreal Engine 5, it combines handcrafted pixel-art characters with detailed 3D environments, creating a visual style that blends traditional RPG presentation with modern lighting and effects.

The story follows a group of heroes recruited from different historical periods as they attempt to restore the ancient Order of the Time Knights. Their journey takes them across multiple eras, from a prehistoric world inhabited by dinosaurs to futuristic civilizations and other locations connected by an overarching threat to the timeline.
Combat uses a strategic turn-based system built around coordinating party members and combining their abilities. Players can manipulate time, exploit enemy weaknesses and chain together powerful team attacks. The developers have also emphasized the importance of recruiting characters from different periods, each bringing their own abilities and backgrounds to the party.
Among the characters introduced so far is Luna, an 18-year-old apprentice mage from 1000 AD who specializes in fire magic and studies under a mage named Fontenay. Her equipment includes spark gloves, which complement her magical abilities.
Another party member, Rin, originates from 2400 AD. She is a three-tailed kitsune and freelance infiltrator who specializes in stealth and agility. Despite being more than 300 years old, she maintains a youthful appearance and can transform between human and fox forms. In battle, she uses dual katars.
The prehistoric era introduces Bo, a Guardian-class character from 12 million BC. He works as a dinosaur veterinarian and possesses considerable physical strength, adding a different style of combat to the roster.
Threads of Time was originally announced in September 2024 for PC and Xbox Series X|S. Its development has since been showcased through additional trailers, including a presentation during Day of the Devs in June 2026. The newly announced Summer 2027 window provides the first more specific indication of when players can expect the finished game.
The addition of Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 also expands the game’s confirmed platform availability. Both versions are currently included in the announced launch window, although the developers have not detailed any technical differences between them.
Threads of Time can currently be wishlisted on Steam. Pricing and an exact release date have not yet been confirmed.
