SEGA and Creative Assembly have announced Total War: SHOGUN 2 Complete Edition for PC, with the updated strategy game launching on October 13. The new edition combines SHOGUN 2 with its downloadable content while adding visual, technical and localization improvements, including more than 50 newly playable minor factions. It will be available through Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store and GOG for $39.99.

Complete Edition includes the original SHOGUN 2 campaign along with Rise of the Samurai and Fall of the Samurai, bringing the game’s major historical campaigns into one package. Creative Assembly says the release has been developed by MATABOO, Creative Assembly and SEGA, rather than simply repackaging the existing PC version. The goal is to modernize the game while retaining the campaign and real-time battle systems that defined the original release.

The technical upgrades include updated lighting, shadows and textures, alongside interface scaling designed for 1440p and 4K displays. Controls have also been modernized, and the game is receiving a 64-bit upgrade. Integrated mod support through Mod.io will be included as well, giving the new edition a built-in route for community-created content rather than relying entirely on external installation methods.

One of the larger gameplay additions is the expansion of playable factions. More than 50 minor factions that were not normally selectable in the original campaigns are being made playable in Complete Edition, substantially increasing the number of possible campaign starts. Creative Assembly has not presented these as completely new factions with bespoke campaign mechanics, but unlocking them should give returning players additional starting positions, territories and strategic challenges.

Localization is also being expanded. Complete Edition will feature Japanese and Chinese voice acting alongside full text localization, while Japanese players will receive full Japanese voice and text support. That is a significant addition for a game centered on Japan’s Sengoku period, particularly because the original release did not offer the same level of Japanese localization.

Existing SHOGUN 2 owners are also being given an upgrade path. Creative Assembly says Steam owners will receive legacy DLC from the original game at no additional cost and will be eligible for a 75% launch discount on Complete Edition for a limited period. The discount begins when the new version launches on October 13 and runs through November 12.

Buying Complete Edition on Steam will additionally include the original Total War: SHOGUN 2 and its associated DLC. Creative Assembly notes one exception: the Blood Pack is excluded because of age-rating considerations. Purchases through Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store and GOG will include Complete Edition itself rather than the separate legacy version.

The October 13 launch is scheduled for 4 PM BST, 8 AM PDT and 11 PM CST, with Japan receiving the game at midnight on October 14. Creative Assembly has set the standard price at £34.99, €39.99 and $39.99, depending on region. No console version has been announced, keeping the release focused entirely on PC storefronts.

SHOGUN 2 remains one of Creative Assembly’s historical Total War entries, combining turn-based empire management with large-scale real-time battles in feudal Japan. Players manage diplomacy, armies, settlements and clan politics on the campaign map before commanding units directly during battles, with the ultimate objective of unifying Japan and becoming Shogun.

Complete Edition therefore sits somewhere between a remaster and an expanded rerelease rather than being a ground-up remake. The core game remains SHOGUN 2, but the 64-bit conversion, higher-resolution interface support, visual improvements, modernized controls, additional factions and integrated mod support represent a broader upgrade than a simple DLC bundle.

Total War: SHOGUN 2 Complete Edition launches for PC on October 13, 2026. Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store and GOG will all carry the new version, while existing Steam owners will receive a limited-time upgrade discount when it goes live.
