Grand Theft Auto VI will bring back functional fast-food restaurants, with players able to order food from drive-thrus without leaving their vehicle.
The detail comes from YouTuber TGG, who was invited to Rockstar North for an extensive hands-off preview of GTA VI and later discussed additional gameplay systems during a livestream.
TGG said drive-through restaurants are functional in the game and allow players to purchase food while remaining inside their vehicle. He specifically discussed Burger Shot, the long-running fictional fast-food chain that has appeared throughout the Grand Theft Auto series.
He also confirmed that players can enter Burger Shot and eat inside, making the restaurant a functional part of GTA VI’s open world rather than simply environmental decoration.
The feature marks the return of a type of interaction that was notably reduced in Grand Theft Auto V.
Grand Theft Auto IV allowed Niko Bellic to enter several restaurants, purchase meals and recover health. GTA V retained fast-food brands including Burger Shot and Cluckin’ Bell throughout Los Santos, but most of their locations were not usable as traditional restaurants during story mode.
GTA VI appears to be reversing that approach while adding a new drive-thru option on top.
The restaurant system also ties into the wider food and fitness mechanics described during TGG’s Rockstar North preview.
According to his account, players can purchase items such as protein bars from vending machines, work out at gyms and use food as part of the game’s broader character-stat systems.
Gyms reportedly require memberships, while what Jason or Lucia consumes can interact with their physical progression.
TGG also said Rockstar at one point considered a more involved grocery system that would have required players to purchase food and keep their home refrigerator stocked.
That concept was reportedly dropped during development, suggesting Rockstar experimented with even deeper survival-style mechanics before settling on the current balance.
Functional restaurants remain in the final design shown to preview attendees.
The presence of drive-thrus is particularly notable because it reflects Rockstar’s broader approach to making ordinary locations more interactive.
Rather than requiring the player to park, enter a building and navigate a menu every time they want food, GTA VI can apparently accommodate the same interaction naturally while driving around Leonida.
It is one of many smaller systems revealed by creators who were shown additional free-roam gameplay beyond Rockstar’s public Extended Look.
TGG said he saw several hours of material during his visit, including details about transportation, gyms, safehouses, garages, social media, police behavior and the ways Jason and Lucia can interact with the world.
Rockstar itself has also emphasized that GTA VI contains significantly more enterable and interactive spaces than its previous Grand Theft Auto games.
The Extended Look released on August 27 showed numerous detailed interiors, including homes, stores and other businesses, while subsequent preview coverage has provided more information about how those locations function during normal play.
Burger Shot also appeared during the Extended Look in an in-game advertisement built around the series’ familiar exaggerated fast-food satire.
The chain has been part of Grand Theft Auto since the 3D-era games and became particularly prominent in GTA: San Andreas and GTA IV.
Its return as an operational restaurant therefore adds another familiar feature while expanding how players can interact with it.
The exact menu, prices, health effects and number of usable Burger Shot locations have not been detailed.
Rockstar has also not yet provided its own standalone breakdown of the restaurant system, so the information currently comes from TGG’s firsthand preview at Rockstar North.
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
For players who missed the usable restaurants of older GTA games, the latest preview details confirm that eating at Burger Shot is returning — and this time, players will not even have to get out of the car to place an order.
