Until Dawn 2 will launch for PlayStation 5 on January 28, 2027, Firesprite Games has confirmed. Sony revealed the release date during its September 3 State of Play alongside a new trailer showing more of the sequel’s story, cast and choice-driven horror. Preorders for both the Standard and Digital Deluxe editions will open on September 10.
The sequel follows Dead True, a group of paranormal YouTubers who have built a successful channel despite never actually encountering anything supernatural. Their situation changes after the crew is drawn toward Akishima Island, a remote South Pacific location abandoned following the mysterious closure of a luxury resort in the 1970s. Firesprite says the island is hiding secrets that stretch back centuries, with players once again determining who survives through the decisions they make.
The latest trailer provides more context for how the group reaches the island. Dead True initially visits Blackwood Sanitorium while filming an episode about the events that took place there 12 years earlier, directly connecting the sequel to the setting of the original Until Dawn. New intern Izzy, played by Sarah Catherine Hook, discovers something unexpected during the investigation that disrupts the crew’s plans.

Later, the team attends HorrorCon in Sydney and meets Yoona, played by Gia Kim, who survived a supernatural attack and carries a dark scar from the encounter. Her warning ultimately sends Dead True toward Akishima Island. Firesprite is using that journey to connect familiar elements from the first game with an otherwise new cast, location and central mystery.
Choice and consequence remain central to Until Dawn 2. The trailer shows Owen, played by Dacre Montgomery, deciding whether to follow a signal that could lead to missing crew member Nate or investigate a suspiciously active bar instead. Another sequence places Mina, played by Camila Senna, in a situation where the crew’s network demands a ritual sacrifice, forcing the player to decide whether to sacrifice the group’s chicken companion or risk Mina herself.
Firesprite says even comparatively small decisions can alter relationships and trigger larger consequences later in the story. Relationship status between members of Dead True can affect available branches, expanding on the Butterfly Effect structure associated with the original game. The objective remains familiar: decisions made throughout the campaign determine which characters live long enough to see dawn and which do not.
The studio has also partnered with AdHoc Studio, the developer behind Dispatch, on the game’s narrative. Firesprite says the collaboration is intended to strengthen character relationships, dialogue and branching decisions throughout the story. Until Dawn 2 is otherwise being developed as a standalone experience, meaning knowledge of the original game is not required despite returning locations and characters.
One major returning figure is Dr. Hill, once again played by Peter Stormare. Players who preorder either edition beginning September 10 will receive several Dr. Hill-themed bonuses, including his classic Until Dawn outfit, an Akishima Island holiday outfit and collectible Dr. Hill bobbleheads hidden throughout the game. The character’s exact role in the sequel remains unclear.
Sony also detailed the Digital Deluxe Edition, which adds cosmetic and bonus content beyond the standard release. Its Y2K Neon Vibes Pack provides alternate neon costumes for all eight Dead True members: Owen, Mina, Nate, Reagan, Izzy, Luke, Josie and Cameron. Another feature, Diorama of Death, lets players revisit unlocked character deaths through separate vignettes showing different angles of each fatal outcome.
Until Dawn 2 was first announced in June 2026 as Firesprite’s first release since Horizon Call of the Mountain, which the studio developed with Guerrilla Games. The sequel keeps the original game’s cinematic horror structure while moving to a completely different primary setting and cast. Firesprite has repeatedly emphasized character drama, relationships and difficult decisions as the foundation of the new story.
Until Dawn 2 launches exclusively for PlayStation 5 on January 28, 2027. With preorders beginning September 10, Firesprite has now moved beyond the sequel’s initial reveal and established its release schedule, preorder incentives and premium edition ahead of launch.
