Pearl Abyss has announced Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown, the game’s first downloadable expansion, launching worldwide on October 15, 2026. Revealed during Sony’s September 3 State of Play, the DLC expands Pywel with ship-based ocean exploration, underwater areas, additional stories, new enemies and broader life-simulation features. Preorders are opening across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC storefronts beginning today.
Charting the Unknown pushes exploration beyond Pywel’s existing coastline by allowing players to take command of a ship and travel across the ocean. New islands can be discovered away from the mainland, while characters can also dive beneath the surface to search for treasure, explore sunken ruins and uncover hidden areas. Sailing had previously appeared to be a possibility through leaked Crimson Desert gameplay, but Pearl Abyss has now formally established ocean travel as one of the expansion’s major systems.
The sea is not simply being added as an empty traversal space. Pearl Abyss says new threats will appear across both land and water, with additional enemies designed to force players to adjust their tactics depending on the encounter. The reveal footage shows combat continuing across the expanded world while the developer describes some of the DLC’s opponents as among the most formidable challenges introduced so far.

Charting the Unknown also continues the stories of Kliff, Oongka and Damiane rather than focusing exclusively on optional exploration. Pearl Abyss has outlined several new narrative threads spread across Pywel, including an ominous presence in the desert, a dangerous political conflict, a journey involving time and an ancient mystery hidden beneath the ocean. The three characters will follow their own paths as they attempt to understand their purpose and influence what happens next.
Outside the new story and exploration content, Pearl Abyss is expanding the ways players can live and establish themselves within Pywel. Players will be able to rent and manage different facilities to generate income, while the existing Housing mode is receiving additional functionality for creating and personalizing a home. Conversations with Pywel’s inhabitants will also allow players to develop deeper relationships with characters around the world.
Those additions make the expansion broader than a conventional collection of new quests and bosses. Charting the Unknown appears designed to extend several different parts of Crimson Desert simultaneously, adding maritime exploration while developing the game’s housing, economic and social systems. Pearl Abyss has not yet provided a complete breakdown of every new island, facility, boss or story mission included in the DLC.
Preorders include cosmetic equipment tied directly to the new underwater exploration. Players who preorder will receive the Charter’s Diving Set for Kliff and Oongka alongside the Charter’s Light Diving Set for Damiane. Pearl Abyss says the expansion will be available digitally, with pricing listed at $24.99 in the United States and €24.99 or £19.99 in supported European markets.
The rollout begins at 22:00 UTC on October 15. That translates to October 15 at 3 PM PT and 6 PM ET in North America, while Europe receives it at midnight CEST on October 16 and Japan and South Korea at 7 AM local time on October 16. Pearl Abyss says the DLC will not be available through the Mac App Store at launch, though a Mac release could be addressed separately in the future.
The expansion arrives relatively soon after Crimson Desert’s March 2026 launch. Since release, the game has generated discussion around everything from how far players are progressing through its campaign to Pearl Abyss’ response after AI-generated assets were discovered in the shipped game. Charting the Unknown marks the developer’s first major attempt to extend the adventure with paid post-launch content.
Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown launches October 15 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. With sailing, underwater exploration, new narrative arcs, tougher encounters and expanded housing and management systems, Pearl Abyss is using its first DLC to open up parts of Pywel that the base game previously left beyond players’ reach.
