FromSoftware has confirmed that Dark Souls II and Dark Souls III game servers have been temporarily shut down across all platforms due to security vulnerabilities. Online services have been unavailable since October 30, 2026, preventing players from accessing multiplayer features, including cooperative play and invasions. Offline gameplay remains available, but the developer has not announced when the servers will return.
In an official notice published on November 2, FromSoftware identified security vulnerabilities in the games’ servers as the reason for the suspension. The announcement covers both titles on every supported platform, including PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
The shutdown began on October 30 at 4:00 PM Japan Standard Time. FromSoftware initially described the interruption as a server issue without identifying its cause. The November 2 update clarified that the suspension was related to security vulnerabilities, although the company did not disclose their technical nature or severity.

With online services disabled, players cannot access the network-dependent features that form part of the Dark Souls multiplayer experience. These include summoning other players for cooperative encounters, invading other worlds for player-versus-player combat and interacting with online messages and bloodstains left by other players.
Both games remain playable offline, allowing players to continue their single-player adventures without connecting to FromSoftware’s servers. However, multiplayer activities and other online interactions will remain unavailable until services are restored.
FromSoftware has described the shutdown as temporary rather than permanent. Its official announcement lists the restoration time as undetermined, meaning there is currently no confirmed date for online functionality to resume. The developer has apologized for the disruption and asked players for patience.
The incident follows a previous security-related disruption affecting the Dark Souls series in 2022. During that outage, FromSoftware temporarily disabled online services for several Dark Souls games on PC while investigating a security vulnerability. Online functionality subsequently returned to Dark Souls III in August 2022 and Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin in October 2022.
Unlike the 2022 suspension, which primarily affected PC players, the latest shutdown extends to console versions as well. The current announcement specifically identifies Dark Souls II and Dark Souls III as affected titles.
FromSoftware has not confirmed whether the newly identified vulnerabilities are related to the problems investigated in 2022. It has also not disclosed whether the vulnerabilities were exploited or whether player information was affected.
For now, players can continue playing both games offline, but anyone relying on cooperative multiplayer, PvP invasions or other online features must wait for FromSoftware to announce the restoration of its game servers.
