Double Fine Productions has announced Thank You Bus Driver, a new chaotic driving game coming to PC. The studio revealed the project on September 4 with an announcement trailer and a new official game page, describing it as a comedy simulation about surviving an ordinary workday as a town bus driver. No release date has been announced.

Thank You Bus Driver puts players behind the wheel of a public bus with three basic priorities: enforce the rules, stay on route and reach each stop on schedule. The complication is that the rules can change from day to day, while the bus depot can introduce additional requirements for passengers to follow. Players are expected to police those rules themselves while simultaneously navigating traffic and trying to keep the journey moving.

Passengers who refuse to behave can be dealt with directly. Double Fine says players can slap rulebreakers to remind them who is in charge, while repeat offenders can have their bus privileges revoked and be thrown out through the back door. The deliberately exaggerated approach establishes the game as an arcade-style comedy rather than a realistic public transport simulator.

Driving appears to be similarly loose. Players can pull up their map while moving and are encouraged to find whatever route gets them to the next stop quickly enough, even if that means taking unconventional shortcuts. Double Fine specifically mentions cutting through a cornfield, while avoiding traffic, pedestrians and obstacles is presented as something players may have to weigh against the pressure of reaching the destination in time.

That pressure comes from a constantly ticking schedule. Passengers become unhappy if the bus takes too long to reach its next stop, making speed another part of managing each run. The game links that system directly to gratitude: earning more “Thank Yous” from satisfied riders gives players additional time to complete the next stage of the journey.

Thank Yous also function as a broader progression reward. Double Fine says collecting enough of them can unlock additional bus decorations, different town variants and other content. That creates an incentive to balance the game’s competing demands instead of simply driving recklessly from one destination to another, since keeping passengers happy appears to affect both immediate survival and longer-term unlocks.

The first screenshots show a bright, stylized town populated by exaggerated characters, with much of the action taking place inside the bus itself. Players will need to divide their attention between the road ahead and whatever their passengers are doing behind them. That combination of driving, time management and direct passenger interactions appears to be the main source of the game’s chaos.

Thank You Bus Driver is another smaller-scale project from Double Fine, the studio behind Psychonauts 2, Broken Age and more recently Keeper. Its official website currently lists the game under the comedy and simulation genres, with Microsoft Windows and Linux confirmed as supported platforms. Gematsu reports that the PC release will be available through Steam, GOG, the Humble Store and itch.io.

The announcement also stands apart from Double Fine’s larger narrative adventures by focusing on a compact mechanical premise. Rather than introducing an expansive fantasy world or a lengthy story setup, Thank You Bus Driver is built around a simple recurring challenge: control the vehicle, enforce increasingly strange rules and keep enough passengers satisfied to remain on schedule. Double Fine summarizes that structure with the instruction to keep riders in line while still getting them where they need to go on time.

Several details remain unconfirmed. Double Fine has not announced pricing, a release window, whether the game will support controllers or multiplayer, or whether console versions are planned. The official listing currently identifies Windows and Linux only, so PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo versions should not be assumed unless the studio announces them later.

Thank You Bus Driver is coming to PC with no release date currently attached. Its reveal establishes a deliberately chaotic take on bus driving in which passenger discipline, reckless shortcuts and collecting gratitude all feed into the same time-management loop.
