Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is now available through Xbox Game Pass, completing its previously announced September 8 addition to Microsoft’s subscription catalog. The 2020 Call of Duty entry is included for Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium and PC Game Pass members, with access available across console, PC and supported cloud gaming devices. Xbox’s store now reflects the title’s Game Pass availability, confirming that subscribers can begin playing without purchasing it separately.
Microsoft had already included Black Ops Cold War in its September 2026 Game Pass Wave 1 lineup, where it was scheduled to arrive alongside releases including SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed, Dice a Million and RuneScape: Dragonwilds. The September 8 date was therefore known in advance, but the game has now moved from the upcoming list into active availability. It is one of the higher-profile additions to the service during the first half of September.
Black Ops Cold War originally launched in November 2020 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Developed primarily by Treyarch and Raven Software, it serves as a direct sequel to the original Call of Duty: Black Ops and is set during the early 1980s. The campaign follows a team pursuing the Soviet operative Perseus across locations including East Berlin, Vietnam, Turkey and the Soviet KGB headquarters.
The Game Pass release includes access to the game’s core campaign, multiplayer and Zombies offerings. Multiplayer supports traditional competitive Call of Duty modes alongside larger-scale battles, while Zombies features the Dark Aether storyline that began with Die Maschine. Black Ops Cold War also supports cross-platform multiplayer and cooperative play, allowing players across supported systems to play together.
For console users, the Xbox Store lists separate Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S versions, while the Windows release is also available through Microsoft’s PC ecosystem. Cloud access is included with Game Pass Premium and Ultimate, giving subscribers another way to play without installing the full game locally on supported hardware. Essential members can stream owned games where supported, but Black Ops Cold War is not included in that tier’s subscription catalog.
The addition continues Microsoft’s steady expansion of Call of Duty availability through Game Pass following its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. A growing number of older entries from the series have entered the service over time, alongside newer releases that have launched directly into Game Pass. Black Ops Cold War adds another full premium installment to that catalog rather than a limited-time multiplayer trial or standalone mode.
Its arrival also comes during an active period for the current Call of Duty cycle. Black Ops 7 and Warzone are preparing for Season 06, with The Haunting and a DOOM crossover scheduled for September 17. That gives subscribers the option to revisit Treyarch’s earlier Black Ops release shortly before another major seasonal update arrives for the current games.
Black Ops Cold War remains notable for combining a shorter cinematic campaign with a multiplayer package and one of Treyarch’s major Zombies iterations. The campaign includes player choices and multiple endings, while Zombies introduced systems and progression that influenced later entries in the series. Its Game Pass inclusion makes the complete base experience significantly easier to access for subscribers who skipped the original release.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium and PC Game Pass. Subscribers can access it across supported console, PC and cloud platforms, with the Xbox Store now reflecting its active Game Pass status rather than its previous upcoming listing.
