Naoki Hamaguchi, the co-director of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and director of Rebirth, recently shared his thoughts on the possibility of the Final Fantasy 7 series being released on additional platforms. In an interview with GamesRadar, Hamaguchi explained that while there are no official announcements at the moment, he would love to see the Final Fantasy 7 and Remake series available to more players across various systems.

He emphasized that creating an environment where the games are accessible to a broader audience is something the team is working towards. “We want to look in that direction,” Hamaguchi said, highlighting the importance of reaching more players in the future.

Reflecting on the evolution of the gaming industry, Hamaguchi pointed out that it used to be feasible for a game to be released on a single platform and have players purchase that console to play it. However, with the gaming market becoming increasingly diversified, he believes this model is no longer sustainable. This shift in the industry is likely why Square Enix has decided to pursue a multiplatform approach, a strategy also mentioned by Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, along with other recent PS5 exclusives, has not met Square Enix’s sales expectations, prompting the company to announce a strategic shift towards multiplatform releases. Although Hamaguchi did not directly mention Xbox when discussing other platforms, he was later asked about his personal thoughts on the Xbox ecosystem. He praised the platform, stating, “I’ve got an Xbox myself… I think it’s a great hardware platform. I do like Xbox.”

This follows a similar sentiment expressed by Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida, who previously indicated interest in releasing the game on Xbox. While Final Fantasy 16 is already available on PC, Yoshida confirmed that Square Enix plans to bring the game to Xbox platforms in the future. He also revealed that the company aims to release games simultaneously across multiple platforms moving forward, further solidifying its shift toward a more inclusive multiplatform strategy
