Nintendo has released a new overview trailer for Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave ahead of the strategy RPG’s September 17 launch on Nintendo Switch 2. The latest video serves as a broad recap of the game’s story structure, four central heroes, tactical combat systems and between-battle exploration, giving players one of the clearest pre-release summaries of how the full experience is structured.
Fortune’s Weave takes place in the Dagdan Empire, where the Heroic Games bring fighters from across the land to the capital city of Dagsion with the promise that the winner will have one wish granted. Four contestants sit at the center of the story: Cai, Dietrich, Theodora and Leda, each of whom enters the competition with a different goal. Their individual paths eventually connect to a larger crisis involving Balor, a resurrected demon god threatening the future of the world.
The game’s wider plot uses time travel to connect those stories across different periods. In the future, the Dagdan Empire has fallen into ruin, prompting the goddess Fortuna to send a soul into the past to change the fates of key heroes. Players will move between different character routes and timelines, gathering allies whose actions in the past are intended to create a force capable of confronting Balor in the future.

Nintendo’s overview also reiterates that Fortune’s Weave retains the series’ turn-based tactical combat while layering in several character-specific abilities. Players position units across grid-based battlefields, exploit enemy weaknesses and use special attacks and support abilities to turn encounters in their favor. Hero-specific powers and combat arts play a major role, while unit placement, class selection and weapon choice remain central to how each battle unfolds.
Outside combat, players can explore Dagsion and other parts of the world between matches in the Heroic Games. Training, recruiting allies, gathering resources and completing battles away from the main arena all compete for limited time, meaning players cannot simply complete every available activity before moving the story forward. That structure gives the preparation phase a scheduling element similar to other recent Fire Emblem titles while tying it directly to the tournament format.
Nintendo has already used dedicated presentations to explain many of these systems in depth, including a roughly 20-minute Fortune’s Weave Direct in August. The latest overview trailer is more of a final condensed presentation than a major new reveal, but it arrives just days before release and brings the core mechanics, story setup and character structure together in a single official video.
Fortune’s Weave is being developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo as a Switch 2 exclusive. The game was first announced in September 2025, with Nintendo later confirming its September 17, 2026 release date during a June Nintendo Direct. Since then, the publisher has steadily expanded on its four-protagonist structure, combat systems and connections between the Heroic Games and the larger time-travel narrative.
The title also continues Fire Emblem’s focus on combining tactical battles with character-driven storytelling rather than treating its combat and narrative systems separately. Each of the four heroes has a distinct motivation for entering the Heroic Games, while their individual stories feed into the broader effort to alter the future. The overview trailer emphasizes that interwoven structure as one of the defining elements separating Fortune’s Weave from a more straightforward single-route campaign.
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave launches worldwide on September 17, 2026, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. With release now only days away, the new overview trailer functions as Nintendo’s final comprehensive introduction to the game’s tactical battles, four hero routes and time-travel premise before players can experience the full campaign themselves.
