Gears of War: E-Day will include an unusual Xbox achievement that effectively serves as a Platinum-style reward for completing every other achievement in the game. Microsoft and The Coalition officially published E-Day’s full achievement list on September 9, revealing an achievement called “The Lucky Ones Died on E-Day” with the requirement to earn all other achievements. Unlike the rest of the list, however, completing it awards zero Gamerscore.

That structure closely resembles the role of a Platinum Trophy on PlayStation, where completing the required trophy set in a game unlocks a separate trophy recognizing the overall completion. Xbox has traditionally handled achievements differently, with a game’s completion represented by collecting its full available Gamerscore rather than receiving a dedicated final achievement. E-Day’s solution creates an additional completion marker without increasing the game’s overall Gamerscore total.

Microsoft has not described “The Lucky Ones Died on E-Day” as a Platinum achievement, nor has Xbox announced a new platform-wide Platinum-style system. For that reason, the achievement should not yet be taken as confirmation that Xbox is changing how completions will work across other games. What is confirmed is that E-Day itself will award a distinct achievement only after every other achievement has been earned, making its purpose substantially different from an ordinary challenge.

The full list contains 55 achievements worth 1,000 Gamerscore, with the zero-point completion achievement sitting outside that total. The requirements span E-Day’s campaign, Horde Siege and Versus multiplayer, meaning earning the completion marker will require substantially more than simply finishing the story. Players will need to work through a wide range of objectives across the game’s major modes before “The Lucky Ones Died on E-Day” can unlock.

Some of those requirements are deliberately demanding, in keeping with the Gears series’ long history of difficult completion challenges. “Dead Serious,” worth 85 Gamerscore, requires players to reach 100% campaign completion on Insane difficulty, record 25,000 Versus kills, reach the maximum player level and max out four classes. Another achievement requires 50,000 Horde Siege kills, while “Got Your Wings” asks players to reach the final Re-Up level. The result is that E-Day’s Platinum-style achievement will represent a significant time investment rather than a routine campaign completion.

The achievement list also sheds more light on the structure of the game ahead of its October 6 launch. E-Day’s campaign is divided into five acts, with separate achievements attached to progression through each one, alongside challenges for cooperative play, secondary objectives, collectibles and Insane difficulty. The game also features extensive Horde Siege and Versus requirements, reinforcing how heavily its achievement set draws from all three parts of the package.

E-Day takes the Gears series back fourteen years before the original game, following Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as the Locust Horde emerges on Emergence Day. The Coalition chose the prequel after Gears of War 6 was considered during development, shifting the next main entry away from continuing the story immediately after Gears 5. The game is being built in Unreal Engine 5 and is scheduled to launch for Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Whether E-Day’s completion achievement remains an experiment specific to The Coalition or becomes the beginning of a broader Xbox convention is not yet known. Microsoft has made no announcement suggesting that other Xbox games will adopt the same structure. For achievement hunters, though, E-Day now has something Xbox games have generally lacked: a separate, unmistakable reward that exists solely to show that everything else has been completed.
