Fortnite’s files contain dedicated elimination-feed messages for both the Kingdom Key and Thundaga, providing additional evidence about how the Kingdom Hearts Mythic will function in Battle Royale. Dataminer FireMonkey uncovered four strings covering eliminations and knockdowns caused by the Keyblade itself and by the lightning spell. The findings come ahead of Fortnite’s v42.20 update and should be treated as datamined information until the item becomes available in live matches.

The strings include separate messages for players being eliminated or knocked down with the Kingdom Key, using the wording that an attacker “keyed” another player. Thundaga receives its own elimination and knockdown messages rather than being grouped under generic Kingdom Key damage. That separation suggests Fortnite internally recognizes the spell as a distinct damage source even though it is associated with the same Mythic item.

Epic Games had already established that the Kingdom Key would become a gameplay item during Chapter 7 Season 4: Override. The season announcement listed the Kingdom Hearts weapon among the special crossover items planned for later in the season, alongside Mega Man’s Mega Buster and other gaming-themed additions. The Kingdom Key Mythic is expected with Fortnite v42.20, which also brings the wider Kingdom Hearts collaboration into the game.

More of the weapon’s functionality became visible in the crossover trailer released ahead of the update. The footage shows the Kingdom Key being used for close-range attacks, rapid forward movement and a lightning ability matching Thundaga from Kingdom Hearts. Epic has not yet published the Mythic’s full live-game statistics, leaving details such as exact damage, cooldowns, charges and availability to be confirmed once the update is playable.

The newly discovered elimination strings strengthen the case that Thundaga is not simply a visual effect attached to one of the Keyblade’s melee attacks. Fortnite tracks the spell separately when determining how another player was knocked or eliminated, which indicates that Thundaga can directly deal the finishing damage itself. It remains unclear whether the spell operates on a cooldown, consumes charges or shares another resource with the Kingdom Key’s movement and melee abilities.

That distinction could matter considerably in team modes. Separate knockdown text means Thundaga appears capable of putting an opponent into the down-but-not-out state rather than merely providing utility or environmental effects. Likewise, the Kingdom Key itself has dedicated knock and elimination handling, confirming that its physical attacks are recognized as combat damage rather than functioning only as mobility.

The Kingdom Hearts collaboration is scheduled around Fortnite’s September 17 update and includes Sora, Riku, Kairi and Roxas. The Kingdom Hearts crossover brings four character skins alongside their associated Keyblade cosmetics, while Sora’s Kingdom Key is also being adapted into the separate Battle Royale Mythic. Epic’s official Override material had teased the gameplay weapon well before the cosmetic lineup was fully revealed.

Sora’s weapon also differs slightly from its traditional Kingdom Hearts appearance. Fortnite replaces the familiar Mickey Mouse-shaped charm on the Kingdom Key’s chain with a Loot Llama-themed charm, while retaining the recognizable silver blade, gold guard and blue handle. Other Keyblades tied to Riku, Kairi and Roxas are being represented through cosmetics rather than being confirmed as separate Battle Royale Mythics.

The elimination-feed discovery does not reveal the weapon’s numerical balance or where players will obtain it. Those details may only become clear through the live loot pool, quests or Epic’s patch information once v42.20 launches. Datamined strings can also remain unused or change before release, although in this case they correspond closely with gameplay already shown publicly in the Kingdom Hearts trailer.

For now, the files establish dedicated combat messaging for two separate ways of defeating opponents with the crossover item. Players can apparently score eliminations directly with the Kingdom Key or use Thundaga to finish opponents at range, giving the weapon both physical and magical offensive options when the Kingdom Hearts content arrives.
