SEGA has revealed Japan as another location in Crazy Taxi: World Tour, releasing a new map trailer during Tokyo Game Show 2026. The footage shows taxis racing through a Japan-inspired environment that combines dense modern city streets with more traditional architecture and scenery. Crazy Taxi: World Tour remains scheduled for release in 2027.
SEGA describes Japan as a country where the past and future intersect, with the new location designed around that contrast. The trailer moves rapidly between neon-heavy urban districts, narrow streets, historical-looking areas and wider roads built for the series’ exaggerated driving. Rather than attempting to recreate one city as a realistic driving simulation, World Tour continues to reinterpret recognizable locations around the arcade-style movement and shortcuts expected from Crazy Taxi.
Japan is the third major setting SEGA has publicly highlighted for World Tour. The game’s earlier material introduced its West Coast environment, which draws heavily from the San Francisco-inspired identity of the original Crazy Taxi, before SEGA revealed Germany during Gamescom 2026. The Japan trailer reinforces the “World Tour” concept by showing how each location can provide a substantially different visual identity and road layout.

The new footage still revolves around the basic Crazy Taxi loop: pick up passengers, race through traffic and reach destinations as quickly as possible. Vehicles launch over obstacles, cut aggressively through intersections and use unconventional routes rather than sticking to normal road rules. SEGA says the game will feature cities with their own terrain and driving challenges, making the environment itself an important part of how each map plays.
World Tour is also significantly broader than the original game’s single-player arcade structure. SEGA has confirmed a story mode, online multiplayer and a Classic Mode intended to preserve the traditional Crazy Taxi experience. A recent closed network test focused specifically on multiplayer and included two modes, six vehicles, four playable drivers and two maps.
That test gave players access to Pickup Race, where competitors race to deliver passengers before their opponents, and Cops ‘n’ Cabbies, which divides players between taxi and police teams. Both ranked and custom matchmaking options were available during the test. Nearly 15 minutes of Crazy Taxi: World Tour multiplayer footage also surfaced from the PC version, providing a longer look at how the classic passenger-delivery formula translates into competitive matches.
The Japan trailer does not confirm whether the newly revealed environment was one of the maps included in that network test. It instead serves primarily as an introduction to another part of the full game’s global lineup. SEGA has not yet detailed the complete number of cities or how extensively players will move between locations during the story campaign.
World Tour represents SEGA’s first major new Crazy Taxi release in years and forms part of the company’s broader effort to revive several established franchises. The project was initially revealed alongside new entries in series including Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe, Shinobi and Streets of Rage, before receiving its full Crazy Taxi: World Tour title and 2027 release window earlier this year.
The franchise is also expanding outside games. SEGA and Netflix recently announced a live-action Crazy Taxi film project, alongside additional adaptations based on Sonic and STRANGER THAN HEAVEN. No release date has been announced for the movie.
Crazy Taxi: World Tour is planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through Steam and the Microsoft Store. SEGA has not announced a specific 2027 launch date, but the Japan trailer gives players another substantial look at how the returning series intends to expand its familiar arcade-driving formula across multiple parts of the world.
