GameSir has responded to concerns over whether some of its controllers are suitable for Call of Duty League competition by pointing players toward dedicated tournament firmware. The company says the firmware for the G7 Pro 8K PC and Tarantula Pro 8K PC completely disables macro and turbo functionality, bringing the controllers in line with hardware rules used by major esports organizations including the CDL. The clarification follows discussion among competitive Call of Duty players over whether GameSir hardware should be restricted or informally avoided.

GameSir now lists the tournament-specific firmware directly through its official support pages. According to the company, installing it removes macro and turbo functions without changing the controllers’ underlying performance characteristics. GameSir specifically describes the firmware as intended for professional players competing in tournaments such as the CDL and ALGS, rather than as a general update recommended for every owner.

The distinction is important because Call of Duty competition rules restrict controller features that automate inputs. Turbo functions can repeatedly trigger an action from a single button press, while macros can perform a sequence of actions that would normally require multiple manual inputs. Those capabilities are fundamentally different from ordinary rear-button remapping, adjustable sticks or trigger customization, which are common across competitive controllers.

The controversy around GameSir has also become muddled by discussion of different models. The G7 Pro 8K PC and Tarantula Pro 8K PC support features that GameSir disables through its tournament firmware, while the standard Xbox-compatible G7 Pro is a separate product with a different feature set. GameSir’s G7 Pro controller uses TMR sticks, Hall Effect triggers and configurable rear controls, but it should not automatically be treated as identical to the PC-focused 8K model when discussing tournament legality.

Competitive Call of Duty community discussion intensified after players began debating whether GameSir controllers should be subject to a gentleman’s agreement, or GA, ahead of the next CDL season. A GA is an informal agreement between professional players not to use a particular weapon, setting or piece of equipment even when it has not necessarily been formally prohibited by league administrators. That makes claims that GameSir controllers have been outright “banned by the CDL” too broad based on the information currently available.

GameSir’s response appears aimed at removing uncertainty around the hardware-level features most likely to conflict with formal tournament rules. By providing firmware that permanently disables macro and turbo functionality while installed, the company gives tournament organizers and players a standardized configuration rather than relying on competitors to simply promise that prohibited functions are turned off. GameSir says the firmware is specifically designed to satisfy hardware eligibility requirements.

The company also warns ordinary users against installing the tournament firmware unless they actually need it for professional competition. Because it disables features available on the retail controllers, doing so can reduce functionality for players who use those options legitimately outside organized esports. Separate standard firmware remains available for normal use.

Controller hardware has become an increasingly sensitive issue in competitive shooters as manufacturers add higher polling rates, adjustable response curves, rear inputs and increasingly sophisticated software configuration. Those features are not inherently cheating, but tournament organizers have to distinguish between customization and functions that automate player inputs. Similar debates sit alongside Activision’s wider effort to tackle unauthorized gameplay advantages, including its ongoing action against Call of Duty cheat providers.

For GameSir, the tournament firmware provides a concrete answer to at least part of the controversy. The company is not claiming that every controller configuration is automatically tournament legal, and final eligibility can still depend on the rules and decisions of individual organizers. What it has done is provide dedicated firmware for the G7 Pro 8K PC and Tarantula Pro 8K PC that removes the macro and turbo functionality most clearly at odds with competitive rules, giving professional players a defined tournament-ready option.
