Rockstar Games is paying Miami-Dade County close to $1 million for a massive Grand Theft Auto VI advertising sign planned for the Kaseya Center in downtown Miami. The figure was disclosed by county officials during a Miami-Dade Commission budget hearing early Friday, September 18, providing new financial details about the unusually large “Welcome to Vice City” installation already being prepared for the arena. Officials also confirmed that discussions are underway over placing additional Rockstar advertising on other county properties.

Christopher Hudtwalcker, chief of staff to Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, told commissioners that Rockstar is paying “close to $1 million” for the Kaseya Center agreement. Levine Cava signed the deal using authority that allows the mayor to enter contracts valued below $1 million without requiring approval from the full commission. The county owns the Kaseya Center, which serves as the home arena of the Miami Heat, putting the GTA VI promotion on one of the most prominent buildings in downtown Miami.

The financial disclosure follows the emergence of detailed planning documents for the installation itself. Those documents show that the GTA VI Kaseya Center rooftop sign will display “Welcome to Vice City” alongside the game’s VI logo, using the arena’s existing rooftop structure with substantial additional steelwork. Plans indicate the advertising elements cover roughly 4,690 square feet in total, while large sections are intended to be lifted onto the roof by helicopter. The documents also allow the GTA VI branding to remain in place for as long as two years.

Rockstar’s arrangement with Miami-Dade could expand beyond the arena. Hudtwalcker said the parties are negotiating over additional signs on other county-owned properties, although no final locations or financial terms for those potential placements have been announced. County Commission Chairman Anthony Rodriguez requested more information about the wider marketing agreement, and officials indicated further details would be provided before a subsequent commission meeting.

The revenue has also prompted discussion among county officials over how the money should be used. Levine Cava has supported directing the proceeds toward development of Parcel B, a county-owned waterfront area behind the Kaseya Center that has long been discussed for community use including park space. Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez argued during the meeting that any future proceeds should instead go toward the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, while expressing objections to the crime-focused themes associated with Grand Theft Auto. Other commissioners defended the arrangement, and the signed Kaseya Center deal remains in place.

The Miami installation forms part of an increasingly visible real-world campaign as GTA VI approaches release. Rockstar’s marketing has recently expanded beyond conventional game trailers and online promotion, including Spotify and Rockstar GTA VI billboards appearing in multiple major US cities. The company has also announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, a 34-track collection of original music scheduled to arrive alongside the game on November 19.

Miami has particular significance to the campaign because GTA VI’s Vice City and surrounding state of Leonida draw extensively from South Florida. Rockstar has recreated recognizable elements of the region in fictional form, making physical advertising around Miami unusually closely connected to the game’s setting. Turning the roof of a major county-owned arena into a Vice City landmark effectively brings part of the game’s fictional identity back into the real city that inspired it.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. With construction of the Kaseya Center installation already progressing and negotiations continuing over additional county properties, Rockstar’s nearly $1 million arena agreement may represent only one part of a broader GTA VI advertising presence across Miami-Dade ahead of release.
