Darkest Dungeon II appears to be heading to Nintendo Switch 2, with the game now listed for the platform by both the ESRB in North America and Germany’s USK ratings board. Red Hook Studios has not officially announced a native Switch 2 version, but the appearance of separate ratings in two regions provides strong evidence that a release is being prepared. No launch date, pricing or upgrade information has been disclosed.
The ESRB’s existing Darkest Dungeon II listing now includes Nintendo Switch 2 alongside Windows PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series. The game retains its Teen rating for Blood and Gore, Mild Language, Mild Suggestive Themes, Use of Alcohol and Violence. Because the platform has been added directly to an official regulatory listing rather than appearing through a retailer or community post, it provides concrete evidence that a dedicated Switch 2 release has entered the ratings process.
Germany’s USK database provides additional confirmation. A separate entry specifically titled Darkest Dungeon II (Nintendo Switch 2) lists Red Hook Studios as publisher and shows that the version was examined on September 7, 2026. The German board assigned it an age rating of 16, citing fantasy violence and its dark atmosphere, while also listing the release as multilingual.
The important distinction is that Darkest Dungeon II is already playable on Switch 2 through backward compatibility. Nintendo’s current store listing remains explicitly labeled as the Nintendo Switch version and says its behavior is consistent when played on Switch 2. The newly surfaced ratings therefore appear to concern a native Switch 2 version rather than simply the existing Switch software running on Nintendo’s newer hardware.
Red Hook has not yet explained what a native version would change. Potential improvements such as higher resolution, faster loading, performance upgrades or Switch 2-specific functionality have not been announced, and there is currently no indication whether existing Switch owners would receive a free or paid upgrade. Until the developer confirms those details, the ratings should be treated as evidence of an upcoming version rather than proof of any particular technical enhancements.
Darkest Dungeon II originally launched on PC before expanding to consoles, with the Nintendo Switch version arriving on July 15, 2024. The roguelike RPG sends a party of heroes across a decaying world in a stagecoach, combining turn-based battles with stress management, relationships and long-form expeditions. Red Hook has continued supporting the game with updates and additional content since its console release.
That support includes The Binding Blade expansion, which adds the Duelist and Crusader, and Inhuman Bondage, which introduces the Abomination alongside the Catacombs region and a new enemy faction. The free Hero Origin Pack also brought alternate appearances based on each character’s past. Red Hook’s current official site continues to list Nintendo Switch among the game’s available platforms but has not yet been updated to advertise Switch 2 separately.
Native releases of existing games have become increasingly common as publishers expand their support for Nintendo’s newer hardware. Other titles have received dedicated Switch 2 editions rather than relying exclusively on backward compatibility, while upcoming releases such as Tropico 7’s Switch 2 version are being built specifically around the platform. Darkest Dungeon II now appears likely to follow that broader trend.
Two independent ratings make an accidental database entry increasingly unlikely, but neither constitutes a formal release announcement from Red Hook Studios. The developer has not provided a release window or confirmed whether the native version will include all existing updates and downloadable content at launch. For now, the ESRB and USK listings provide the clearest indication yet that Darkest Dungeon II is preparing to make the move from backward-compatible Switch software to a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 release.
