Developer Shark Jump has announced Winds of Viridia, an upcoming action-adventure game launching for Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam in early 2027. The announcement, made on October 28, 2026, is accompanied by a new trailer and playable demos for both platforms.
The game’s Steam listing specifies a Q1 2027 release window, placing its planned launch between January and March. An exact release date has not been announced.
Winds of Viridia takes place in a sprawling wilderness surrounding the towering Grantree, where a mysterious phenomenon is causing local creatures to become increasingly aggressive. Players must explore the region, confront affected beasts, discover ancient relics, and investigate the source of the disturbance.
Exploration emphasizes fluid movement and environmental interaction. Players can roll, slide, flip, and grapple across a seamless, handcrafted world featuring mountain glades, hidden grottos, and ancient ruins. Unusual plants provide additional traversal opportunities, allowing characters to jump higher, travel farther, and reach previously inaccessible locations.
Combat revolves around fast-paced encounters with creatures affected by the mysterious frenzy. The adventure includes dozens of distinct enemies alongside larger boss battles against gigantic beasts, living statues, and ancient guardians.
Character customization comes through collectible relics known as Totems. Players can equip and combine these items to modify their abilities and develop different approaches to combat and exploration. The game also introduces a companion called Mothbug, which can assist during both activities.
Beyond combat, players can interact with the inhabitants of Sanctuary, share meals with residents, and encounter other explorers throughout the wilderness.
The soundtrack features orchestral compositions by Kevin Penkin and Christopher Larkin. Penkin is known for his work on Made in Abyss, while Larkin composed the soundtrack for Hollow Knight.
On PC, the official Steam listing confirms single-player support and provides preliminary system requirements. Minimum specifications include an Intel Core i5-3470 processor, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card, 3GB of RAM, and 5GB of available storage. Recommended hardware includes an Intel Core i5-6600K, a GTX 1070, and 5GB of RAM. Both configurations require DirectX 12 and Windows 10 version 21H1 or newer.
A playable demo is available through Steam, allowing PC players to experience the game before its planned release. A Nintendo Switch 2 demo has also been announced.
Winds of Viridia joins several upcoming games confirmed for Nintendo’s latest console, including the martial-arts roguelike Tenjutsu, which is scheduled for Switch 2 in 2027. Unlike Tenjutsu’s roguelike structure, Winds of Viridia focuses on exploration across a handcrafted wilderness, environmental traversal, and customizable abilities.
Shark Jump has not yet announced the game’s final release date or pricing for either platform.
