Fortnite FNCS Battle Royale will return to a three-player team format in 2027, according to multiple reports following the Fortnite Global Championship. FireMonkey reported that FNCS Battle Royale 2027 is Trios, with HYPEX and SpushFNBR separately reporting the same result shortly afterward. The decision follows an official Epic Games voting process that asked players to choose between Duos and Trios for next year’s FNCS.
Epic opened the vote earlier in September through the Legends Landing experience, allowing players to cast votes daily. The company said the final result would be announced during the 2026 Fortnite Global Championship, making the team-size decision part of the event’s 2027 competitive announcements. The voting campaign drew more than 500,000 votes, according to Fortnite Tracker, before the result was due to be revealed during the broadcast.
The move will return FNCS to Trios after the 2026 season used Duos. Epic’s official competitive information describes FNCS Battle Royale as a building-based competition whose team size can change between Duos and Trios depending on the year. The 2026 Global Championship itself is being contested by 50 Duos in Antwerp, Belgium, providing a direct contrast with the three-player format planned for the following season.
For competitive players, the change affects more than simply the number of people on each team. Returning to Trios changes how teams divide responsibilities, coordinate fights and manage rotations, while also creating new roster-building considerations for professional organizations and free agents. Players who competed together during the 2025 FNCS season may also find themselves reconsidering former lineups as the competitive scene moves back toward three-player squads.
The result also gives context to the broader 2027 competitive roadmap revealed during the Global Championship. Epic has announced the return of the Fortnite Reload Championship, a new Reload Zero Build Championship and Arenas Fight Night for next year. The FNCS team-size decision is therefore one part of a larger expansion of Fortnite’s competitive calendar rather than an isolated format adjustment.
The Trios result also reverses the direction of the main FNCS format from this year’s competition. The 2026 season was built around Duos, including the Global Championship, while the previous FNCS season used Trios. With the community vote now reportedly settled in favor of three-player teams, professional Fortnite will once again have to adapt its roster structures around a larger squad size.
The decision follows weeks of uncertainty over which format Epic would select for 2027. Players could participate in the official FNCS 2027 Duos or Trios vote through Legends Landing, with the outcome deliberately left to the community rather than being announced in advance by Epic.
Epic’s public competitive pages had not yet published a detailed written breakdown of the 2027 FNCS structure at the time of the reports, so details such as the exact schedule, prize pool, qualification system and LAN structure remain separate questions. The Trios decision, however, establishes the core team format for the upcoming FNCS Battle Royale season and gives players a clear direction for preparing their 2027 competitive rosters.
