Intel’s 13-year-old Core i5-4670K has claimed a new processor-specific Cinebench R11.5 record after overclocker Luumi pushed the Haswell CPU to 6,301 MHz using liquid nitrogen cooling. The processor achieved a multi-core score of 10.8 cb, narrowly surpassing a record that had stood for approximately 12 years.

The result was submitted to the competitive overclocking platform HWBOT on October 8, 2026, and now ranks first among 187 submissions in the Core i5-4670K category. The previous record belonged to overclocker Strat, who scored 10.76 cb with the same processor running at 6,249 MHz. Luumi’s result improves on that score by just 0.04 points.

Released in 2013, the Intel Core i5-4670K is a fourth-generation Haswell desktop processor manufactured using Intel’s 22 nm process. It features four cores and four threads, with a base frequency of 3.4 GHz and a maximum turbo frequency of 3.8 GHz.

At 6,301 MHz, Luumi’s processor was operating approximately 66% above its rated maximum turbo frequency. Achieving that clock speed required liquid nitrogen cooling rather than conventional air or liquid cooling.

The HWBOT submission identifies an ASRock Z97 OC Formula motherboard as the foundation of the overclocking system. The board uses Intel’s Z97 chipset, which was designed for fourth-generation Core processors and became a popular platform for enthusiast overclocking.

The system also used 4 GB of XPG DDR3 memory operating at 2,708 MHz, with timings of 8-12-7-28. Storage was provided by a Corsair Force GT SSD, while a 1,600 W Corsair AXi-series power supply supported the test configuration.

Luumi completed the benchmark using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, keeping the software environment consistent with the older hardware platform.

The achievement is particularly notable because of how closely contested the Core i5-4670K leaderboard remains. Behind Luumi’s 10.8 cb result and Strat’s 10.76 cb score, third-place competitor Moose83 holds a result of 10.74 cb at 6,231 MHz. The three leading submissions are separated by only 0.06 points.

However, the new result should not be confused with an overall Cinebench R11.5 world record. HWBOT maintains separate rankings for individual processor models, core counts and overall benchmark performance. Luumi’s submission leads the Core i5-4670K category, not the broader rankings for all processors.

Modern CPUs achieve substantially higher scores in Cinebench R11.5, which measures processor rendering performance. The older benchmark has also been superseded by several newer Cinebench versions, making its results less representative of current CPU performance comparisons.

The 6.3 GHz result therefore demonstrates the overclocking potential of Intel’s aging Haswell architecture rather than suggesting that the Core i5-4670K can compete with contemporary processors in gaming or productivity workloads.

Interestingly, Luumi also submitted a Cinebench R15 result using the same Core i5-4670K at 6,301 MHz. That submission achieved 1,009 cb and currently ranks first among 202 entries for the processor in HWBOT’s Cinebench R15 category.

Both results demonstrate that competitive overclocking remains active on older PC hardware, even as manufacturers prepare newer processor generations, including Intel’s upcoming Nova Lake-S desktop CPUs.

While liquid nitrogen cooling and extreme clock speeds have little practical relevance to everyday gaming systems, the achievement highlights how motherboard tuning, memory configuration and specialized cooling can continue to extract additional benchmark performance from hardware released more than a decade ago.
