Square Enix has released new Final Fantasy VII Revelation gameplay footage showcasing exploration around Midgar, offering another look at how the iconic location will return in the final installment of the remake trilogy. The video, shared through the official Final Fantasy VII social media account on October 26, 2026, highlights the game’s expanded exploration while director Naoki Hamaguchi hints at an unresolved mystery beneath the region.
The footage focuses on traversal through the Midgar region, where players will encounter a significantly changed environment compared with the opening installment of the trilogy. Square Enix accompanied the video with a message encouraging players to explore the region in an entirely new way, reinforcing the developer’s plans to revisit familiar locations with expanded gameplay possibilities.
Hamaguchi also shared the footage through his own social media account, teasing what players might discover deep underground. However, the director did not explain what lies beneath Midgar or confirm whether the mysterious area involves a new dungeon, storyline, or other gameplay feature.

The new demonstration follows earlier information about Midgar’s transformation in Revelation. Unlike Final Fantasy VII Remake, which concentrated much of its adventure within the city, the upcoming installment will allow players to explore Midgar and the surrounding region as part of a substantially larger interconnected world.
Hamaguchi previously explained that Revelation would expand exploration beyond the relatively horizontal environments of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, placing greater emphasis on verticality. Returning locations are also being altered to reflect the events affecting the planet, with revised layouts and additional content rather than straightforward recreations of earlier environments.
The broader exploration system will also incorporate the Highwind airship, allowing players to travel between regions and descend into different areas. This approach is intended to connect the game’s locations more directly as Cloud and his companions continue their journey toward the trilogy’s conclusion.
Alongside these environmental changes, Square Enix is expanding several gameplay systems. Revelation will introduce Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine as playable party members, while its new class-inspired customization system will provide additional combat options. Players will also be able to select Hard Mode from the beginning, rather than having to unlock it through an initial playthrough.
Another confirmed addition is an optional auto-level feature that allows players who skip side activities to raise their party to the recommended level. Together, these changes give players more flexibility in how they approach the game’s exploration and combat.
The October 26 footage provides a new visual demonstration of Midgar’s redesigned exploration, but the nature of its underground areas remains unexplained. Square Enix has not disclosed what players will encounter beneath the region.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled to launch on April 8, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
