Several unofficial Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave strategy guides have appeared on Amazon Japan, raising concerns about potentially AI-generated content and misleading product listings. An investigation published by AUTOMATON on October 27, 2026, identified approximately nine unauthorized guidebooks, including several that have received negative customer reviews.
The investigation found that seven of the nine books were available for purchase at the time of reporting. None appeared to be officially licensed by Nintendo, and several featured suspicious cover illustrations, ambitious claims about their content and sample pages consisting almost entirely of text.
The listings advertise comprehensive walkthroughs, hidden secrets and detailed gameplay strategies for the Nintendo Switch 2 tactical RPG. However, the available previews reportedly contain lengthy passages without supporting screenshots or illustrations, raising questions about their usefulness as practical strategy guides.

AUTOMATON also examined customer feedback for the publications. Four books had received reviews, all carrying one-star ratings. At least one review was marked as a verified Amazon purchase, indicating that a customer had bought the product through the retailer.
Reviewers described their purchases as disappointing and warned other customers against buying the guides. Although the presentation suggests some material may have been generated using artificial intelligence, the investigation did not establish conclusively how the books were produced.
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave launched on September 17, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2. The game has already attracted interest in character recruitment, progression systems and additional content, including a datamine suggesting potential DLC characters and story routes. Such gameplay systems create demand for walkthroughs that help players navigate their campaigns.
Official strategy material has also appeared in Japan, including a guide bundled with the December 2026 issue of Dengeki Nintendo. However, AUTOMATON reported that no standalone official strategy book had been published for the game at the time of its investigation.
Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing platform offers one possible explanation for how questionable guidebooks can reach the marketplace with relatively little financial investment.
The service allows publishers to release physical books using print-on-demand production, eliminating the need to purchase inventory in advance. Amazon deducts printing expenses from royalties when copies are sold, allowing publishers to distribute books without upfront printing costs.
Amazon also permits AI-generated material under its publishing guidelines, provided publishers disclose AI-generated text, images or translations to Amazon during the submission process. This requirement does not necessarily mean the use of AI must be displayed prominently to customers.
The company’s policies separately prohibit misleading book descriptions and content that creates a poor customer experience. However, it has not been established whether the specific Fire Emblem guidebooks violate those requirements or were published through KDP.
Concerns about unofficial Fortune’s Weave merchandise are not entirely new. Players were discussing suspicious strategy guide listings on Reddit as early as August 2026, before the game’s release. Some questioned the unfamiliar characters shown on covers, while another commenter claimed to have purchased a guide and regretted the decision.
For players considering a physical walkthrough, the listings highlight the importance of distinguishing officially licensed publications from independently produced guides. Checking the publisher, preview pages and verified customer reviews can help identify products that may not deliver the gameplay information advertised.
As of October 27, there has been no confirmed public response from Nintendo specifically addressing the guidebooks identified in AUTOMATON’s investigation.
