Kitsune: The Journey of Adashino will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch in spring 2027, developer Rias and publishers room6 and yokaze have announced. The 3D action-adventure game’s console release was revealed during Nintendo’s October 28 Indie World presentation. A PC version is also planned through Steam.
The announcement adds two Nintendo platforms to the upcoming Japanese folklore-inspired adventure, which follows a fox girl named Kitsune and her frog companion as they explore a mysterious island. The game was among the titles featured during the October 28 Indie World Showcase, which highlighted independent games heading to Nintendo’s consoles.
The story begins when Kitsune and her companion become stranded on an unfamiliar island covered in darkness. Torii gates, lanterns outside food stalls, and glowing neon signs provide pockets of illumination throughout the environment. As the pair investigate their surroundings, they encounter supernatural threats, including oni demons that pursue them through the island.

Gameplay combines exploration with sequences focused on escaping these enemies. Players can interact with the island’s inhabitants, discover hidden locations, and activate shrines that illuminate previously inaccessible paths.
Light also serves as an important survival mechanic. Kitsune can use it to remove darkness from certain areas and temporarily blind pursuing oni, creating opportunities to escape or hide. However, the ability has limited uses and must be recharged at shrines, requiring players to consider when to use it.
The adventure takes place during the night of the Jugoya harvest festival. A mysterious structure known as the Tower of Mumyo stands in the distance, containing numerous stolen lights. As Kitsune and her companion travel across the island, they meet different characters and uncover details about its supernatural mysteries.
Kitsune: The Journey of Adashino joins other independent games announced for Nintendo’s latest console, including Tenjutsu, the action roguelike also scheduled for Switch 2 in 2027.
The Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch versions currently have a spring 2027 release window, with no specific launch date announced. The PC version remains planned for release through Steam, although its exact launch timing has not been confirmed alongside the console announcement. Pricing and any differences between the Nintendo versions have not been detailed.
