Ubisoft Confirms No More Assassin’s Creed Remakes in Development

Ubisoft has confirmed that no additional Assassin’s Creed remakes are currently in active development following the release of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. The publisher also shared new information about its upcoming multiplayer project, Codename Invictus, and confirmed that the next major update on the darker Codename Hexe will arrive in 2027.

The announcement came through Ubisoft’s official Fall 2026 Assassin’s Creed update, published on October 29. Jean Guesdon, the franchise’s Head of Content, outlined the company’s development priorities, including its approach to remakes, changes to Invictus following player testing, and plans for the series’ 20th anniversary next year.

Ubisoft addressed speculation surrounding additional remakes directly, stating that it currently has no other Assassin’s Creed remake actively in development. Black Flag Resynced, which launched on July 9, 2026, remains the franchise’s first remake.

The publisher explained that rebuilding older Assassin’s Creed games presents significant development challenges. Creating Black Flag Resynced involved reconstructing existing systems, introducing new features, and balancing the original game’s identity with modern improvements.

However, Ubisoft has not ruled out returning to other classic entries in the future. The company intends to continue evaluating remake opportunities while directing its current development resources toward new Assassin’s Creed projects, including unannounced games featuring different settings and stories.

For players expecting another classic Assassin’s Creed title to receive the same treatment as Black Flag Resynced, the announcement establishes that no such project is currently being actively developed. It does not amount to a permanent cancellation of future remakes.

Black Flag Resynced itself has reached another milestone. Its October 27 update introducing New Game+ and Nightmare Mode marks the end of Ubisoft’s currently planned major content additions.

The update also introduced new rewards, finishers, trinkets, and customization options, including Blackbeard’s iconic outfit, Edward’s London attire, and additional options for the Jackdaw and its crew. Ubisoft Singapore will continue providing quality-of-life improvements over the coming months.

Meanwhile, Codename Invictus remains in development, although Ubisoft confirmed that its direction has evolved significantly following an early round of multiplayer testing.

Hundreds of players participated in the project’s first private Insiders Session earlier this year, testing an early prototype of the competitive multiplayer experience. According to Ubisoft, participants responded positively to the return of player-versus-player combat, particularly the verticality of the maps, parkour mechanics, and dynamic teamplay.

The prototype also allowed players to control different Assassin’s Creed characters, each featuring distinct abilities and playstyles.

However, testers wanted the multiplayer experience to incorporate more of the defining elements of Assassin’s Creed. Ubisoft said its development team spent the following months responding to that feedback, adjusting Invictus to better reflect the franchise’s core identity without abandoning its competitive multiplayer ambitions.

The company did not provide detailed information about the revised mechanics or announce a release window. Further testing is planned as development continues.

Ubisoft also cautioned that information circulating online about Invictus might be incomplete or outdated because the project is still undergoing changes.

Regarding Codename Hexe, Ubisoft confirmed that development is progressing but that substantial work remains. The publisher continues to describe the project as a darker Assassin’s Creed experience and plans to provide its next major update sometime in 2027.

No specific announcement date, gameplay presentation, or release window was confirmed. The latest statement also offers no official confirmation of the character and narrative details circulating in the Assassin's Creed Hexe story and character leaks.

Beyond its upcoming games, Ubisoft outlined changes to the broader franchise strategy. A leadership team headed by Martin Schelling is developing a long-term direction focused on maintaining the series’ identity, improving narrative consistency, and delivering more cohesive experiences across future titles.

The publisher said thousands of players participated in a community survey earlier this year. Recurring concerns included preserving the franchise’s defining gameplay elements, maintaining consistency with established lore, and improving communication between developers and players.

Ubisoft plans to address those concerns through additional community surveys and private workshops involving selected players and content creators.

The Fall 2026 announcement also confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will receive New Game+ on November 5, following the game’s milestone of 40 million players. The update will introduce progression scaling, additional runes, new rewards, a stash system, and Divine Gear improvements.

Looking further ahead, Ubisoft is preparing a series of reveals, updates, rewards, and community activities to celebrate Assassin’s Creed’s 20th anniversary in 2027.

The company has not detailed the anniversary announcements, leaving the identities of its unannounced Assassin’s Creed projects undisclosed. For now, Ubisoft has made clear that its active development priorities lie with new entries rather than additional remakes.
