Rockstar Games has officially confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI digital preloading will begin on November 10, 2026, two days earlier than the previously announced November 12 date. The company revealed the revised schedule on November 3, confirming that players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will need up to 212GB of available storage before downloading the game.
The announcement establishes separate preload start times for PlayStation and Xbox players ahead of GTA 6’s November 19 release. It also provides official confirmation of the game’s substantial storage requirements, following an earlier report suggesting a 210GB PS5 download.
On PlayStation 5, digital preloading begins at midnight local time on Tuesday, November 10. Players in different regions will therefore gain access to the download as their respective time zones reach midnight.

Xbox Series X|S players will receive access simultaneously worldwide at 12:00 a.m. GMT on November 10. Unlike the PlayStation schedule, the Xbox preload uses a single global starting time, meaning the download will become available at different local times depending on the region.
Rockstar’s newly published preload FAQ also explains how players can prepare their consoles for automatic downloading. PlayStation 5 owners must enable automatic downloads and leave their consoles powered on or in Rest Mode. Xbox Series X|S owners need automatic updates enabled, with their consoles powered on or in Sleep mode.
The confirmed storage requirement is another important detail for players preparing for launch. Rockstar states that the GTA 6 preload requires up to 212GB of available space, depending on the device. This is close to the previously circulated 210GB figure, although the company has not provided a separate exact download size for each console.
Players should ensure sufficient storage is available before November 10, particularly on consoles with large existing game installations. The 212GB figure represents Rockstar’s stated maximum space requirement for preloading rather than a guarantee that every platform will download an identical amount of data.
Physical editions will follow a different schedule. Rockstar confirmed that code-in-box versions of GTA 6 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S should become available through retailers beginning November 12. These editions contain digital download codes rather than game discs, so buyers will still need to download the game before playing.
Rockstar also announced a new release-day bonus featuring GTA 6’s official cover artwork and a map of Leonida, the fictional state containing Vice City and the surrounding locations.
Both items will become available as a free printable digital download through Rockstar’s official website on November 19. A double-sided physical poster featuring the cover artwork and map will also be offered through the Rockstar Store shortly after launch. It will cost $0.99 when purchased separately or be included free with another Rockstar Store purchase.
Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. With the revised preload schedule confirmed, digital buyers will have nine days between the beginning of downloads and the game’s official release.
