Gears of War: E-Day has launched its 20th Anniversary celebration on November 3, 2026, bringing the classic Guardian multiplayer mode back to Versus alongside a new limited-time Horde Siege mission and anniversary rewards. Developer The Coalition confirmed that the event’s playlists and rewards are now available for players on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
The celebration marks 20 years of the Gears of War franchise, with the original game having launched on Xbox 360 in November 2006. The new content introduces additional multiplayer activities to E-Day, which released on October 6, 2026.
Guardian is the biggest addition to the anniversary event. The returning Versus mode, which first appeared in Gears of War 2, assigns a leader to each team. Players must protect their own leader while attempting to eliminate the opposing team’s leader, making coordinated attacks and defensive positioning central to the experience.

The Coalition confirmed Guardian’s return in its November 3 announcement, describing the mode as a confrontation in which only one leader survives. Its inclusion expands E-Day’s existing competitive multiplayer options with a familiar team-based objective.
The anniversary celebration also introduces For the Queen, a limited-time mission for Horde Siege. Unlike standard missions, this variant disables the supply cache, preventing squads from relying on the usual resupply points during combat.
Instead, players must depend on their selected loadouts and supplies recovered from defeated enemies. The restriction changes how squads approach equipment management, particularly during prolonged encounters when ammunition and other resources become limited.
Alongside the two multiplayer additions, the event includes anniversary-themed challenges, cosmetic rewards, skins and poses. These provide additional customization options and objectives for players participating in the celebration. The Coalition has not provided a complete public breakdown of every individual reward and its unlock requirements.
The anniversary event is part of Season 1: Emergence, which also includes Halloween and Thanksgibbing activities. The season features limited-time Versus playlists, Horde Siege missions and exclusive rewards, with Season 1 scheduled to conclude on December 1, 2026.
Another anniversary reward is planned for November 7, the franchise’s official 20th birthday. The Coalition previously announced that every Gears of War: E-Day player would receive a special birthday gift on that date, although the exact contents have not been detailed.
The celebration arrives during the shooter’s first month following its full release. E-Day has also attracted attention over its commercial performance, including reports estimating more than 400,000 copies sold across Xbox and Steam.
Guardian and For the Queen are available through the game’s multiplayer playlists, giving players two distinct anniversary activities focused on competitive teamwork and cooperative survival.
