The Borderlands franchise has officially surpassed 100 million units sold worldwide, publisher 2K Games and developer Gearbox Software announced on November 2, 2026. To celebrate the milestone, Gearbox has released a commemorative SHiFT code that gives players 20 Golden Keys in each of five Borderlands games.
The sales figure represents cumulative purchases across the franchise since the original Borderlands launched in 2009. It is not a sales figure for Borderlands 4 alone, and neither company has provided a breakdown of sales by individual game or platform.
Gearbox confirmed the milestone in an official message to the Borderlands community, thanking players for supporting the looter-shooter series over the past 17 years. The announcement also comes shortly after Borderlands 4 completed its first year of post-launch content.

Players can celebrate the milestone by redeeming the following SHiFT code:
CZKJJ-35RH6-T9K9C-9TJJT-SXRCT
The code awards 20 Golden Keys in each of the following games: Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Borderlands 3 and Borderlands 4. Players who own all five supported titles can receive up to 100 Golden Keys in total.
The commemorative code is valid until November 16, 2026, and can be redeemed once per SHiFT account. Players can enter it through the SHiFT redemption system or the supported games’ SHiFT menus.
Golden Keys allow players to open special reward chests containing randomized equipment, making the giveaway useful for both returning players and those still progressing through the series.
Alongside the sales announcement, Gearbox provided an update on Borderlands 4. The developer confirmed that the game’s Year 1 roadmap has concluded, following the release of two Story Packs, five Bounty Packs, two additional Vault Hunters and multiple endgame activities. These additions included two free Raid Boss encounters and a Takedown raid.
Gearbox is already developing further Borderlands 4 content for 2027, although it has not announced specific release dates or detailed its next content roadmap. Weekly Activity refreshes and Community Challenges will continue in the meantime.
The developer also indicated that it is considering the broader future of the franchise, including potential character developments and storylines shaped by community feedback. However, the announcement did not confirm another Borderlands game or a new spin-off.
To mark the 100 million sales milestone, 2K is also offering limited-time discounts on several Borderlands titles across participating digital storefronts. Prices and availability vary by platform.
The milestone adds Borderlands to the growing group of major gaming franchises with nine-figure lifetime sales. Other established series continue to report significant commercial achievements, including Sonic X Shadow Generations surpassing three million worldwide sales.
Gearbox’s announcement also highlighted the upcoming return of The Hunt, a community fundraising event supporting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Beginning November 6, 2K Foundations and Gearbox will match donations up to the previous event’s record of $118,995.80.
For current Borderlands players, the immediate benefit of the announcement is the Golden Keys giveaway, which remains redeemable until November 16, while Gearbox continues work on additional Borderlands 4 content planned for 2027.
