Recently, Sony gave us the good news that starting in August, the PSVR 2 will be compatible with PC, as players will be able to use their PSVR 2 headset to play Steam games, thanks to a new app coming to the platform on August 6.

However, to further increase hype, the PlayStation VR2 has now received a substantial price reduction, marking the most significant discount since its launch. The headset is now available for up to 36% off at major retailers.

Currently, on Amazon, the PlayStation VR2 is priced at £349.00, down from its original price of £529.99. A bundle that includes Horizon Call of the Mountain is also seeing a similar price drop. Meanwhile, Smyths is offering the headset at an even lower price of £329.99.

Importance: The PSVR 2 is a significant step toward a seamless virtual reality experience. Increasing access to the headset means more customers, which in turn promotes growth in the virtual reality market.

Starting next month, the PlayStation VR2 will support PC compatibility, expanding its usability beyond the PlayStation ecosystem. However, users will need a specific adapter to connect the headset to their PCs. This adapter will be available from August 7 for $59.99 / €59.99 / £49.99 at select retailers and through PlayStation’s direct online store.

In addition to the adapter, players will require a commercially available DisplayPort 1.4-compatible cable, a Steam account, and a PC that meets the minimum system requirements to fully utilize the headset on their computers.

It’s important to note that while the PlayStation VR2 will gain PC compatibility, certain advanced features will not be supported. These include HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback (excluding rumble).

This is something that would be a point of concern for many as these features are a great part of the PSVR 2, however, if they can look past these features then they should be pretty excited for the headset’s compatibility on the PC platform.

The PlayStation VR2’s price reduction and impending PC compatibility highlight Sony’s commitment to expanding the reach and versatility of its VR technology, providing more opportunities for gamers to experience virtual reality in diverse ways.
