CaTHaRSiS: The last of atelier, an immersive art adventure developed by Mana and published by Kodansha, is reportedly launching on December 1, 2026, for Windows PC via Steam. The newly reported date narrows the game’s previously announced 2026 release window, giving players a specific launch target for its journey through worlds inspired by famous paintings.
The December 1 date was reported by Gematsu on November 4. Kodansha originally announced the game for a general 2026 release in September, while its publicly available Steam listing has continued to display a “Coming soon” release status.
CaTHaRSiS is a single-player walking simulator that allows players to enter ten environments inspired by celebrated works of art. Rather than observing paintings from a distance, players explore three-dimensional interpretations of their settings while collecting memories associated with each world.

The adventure draws inspiration from artists including Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet and Gustav Klimt. Featured environments include interpretations of Van Gogh’s The Starry Night, Café Terrace at Night and Sunflowers, Monet’s Woman with a Parasol, and Klimt’s The Kiss.
Players control a nameless being who begins the journey without memories or a sense of identity. Accompanied by a wolf and an owl, the protagonist travels between paintings, recovering memories and gradually discovering more about the human world.
Kodansha describes the complete experience as approximately the length of a feature film. There are no game-over conditions or time limits, allowing players to explore the environments without pressure. The game emphasizes environmental exploration and atmosphere rather than combat or competitive challenges.
A free Steam demo has been available since October 15, 2026. It includes two stages inspired by Van Gogh’s The Starry Night and Café Terrace at Night, alongside John Everett Millais’ Ophelia. The demo offers an opportunity to experience the game’s approach to transforming traditional artworks into explorable spaces before purchasing the full release.
The Steam store lists English, Japanese and Simplified Chinese interface and subtitle support. Its published minimum PC requirements include Windows 11, an Intel Core i5-12600K processor, 16GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti graphics card.
Kodansha has not announced a final retail price in its existing product information. The game is available to wishlist on Steam ahead of its reported December 1 launch.
