A retail copy of Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection for Nintendo Switch 2 has reportedly been sold by Best Buy ahead of the game’s expected September 15 release. Photos posted by a Reddit user show what appears to be the front and back of the retail box, providing another concrete look at Blizzard’s Switch 2 release before its wider availability. The images also appear consistent with earlier reports about the edition’s contents and physical format.

The original post was shared on the Nintendo Switch collectors community before being reposted to GamingLeaksAndRumours. According to the user, the copy was purchased from Best Buy despite the Switch 2 edition not yet being due for general release. The photos show a Nintendo Switch 2-branded Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection case, although there is no evidence at this stage that Best Buy stores broadly have permission to sell the game early rather than this being an isolated street-date break.

The packaging appears to confirm that the physical release is effectively a code-in-a-box product rather than a cartridge-based edition. The rear of the case references a substantial download of roughly 78 GB, meaning buyers will need significant internal or microSD Express storage available before installing the game. That matches earlier reporting that the boxed Switch 2 version would contain a download code rather than the full software on physical media.

The box also identifies the release as the Age of Hatred Collection, the bundle already available on other platforms. That package combines the Diablo IV base game with Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred, giving Switch 2 players access to the major expansion content released since the original game launched in 2023. Earlier retail information had pointed to the collection being priced at $69.99 in the United States, though the Reddit post does not establish what the early buyer actually paid.

Another detail visible on the packaging concerns Nintendo Switch Online and network connectivity. Diablo IV is built around an online-connected structure on its existing platforms, and the Switch 2 box includes online-service information consistent with that design. However, the packaging alone is not enough to establish precisely which activities require a Nintendo Switch Online membership, so the presence of the notice should not be interpreted as proof of additional subscription requirements beyond what Blizzard and Nintendo formally specify.

The early retail appearance follows several weeks of increasingly specific information about Diablo IV coming to Nintendo’s newer hardware. Ratings in multiple regions were followed by reporting from Dealabs’ billbil-kun that the Age of Hatred Collection would launch on September 15, with both a digital version and boxed release planned. Those reports also described the physical version as a download-code package, a detail that appears to be supported by the photographed Best Buy copy.

Blizzard’s wider Diablo activity has accelerated around BlizzCon 2026, with the company using the event to outline several major developments for the franchise. Diablo IV remains an important part of those plans even as Blizzard moves ahead with new projects and additional platforms. A Switch 2 release would bring the game to a Nintendo system for the first time after Diablo III and Diablo II: Resurrected previously appeared on the original Switch.

The most notable part of the Best Buy incident is therefore not confirmation that a Switch 2 version exists, but that finished retail inventory appears to have reached stores and at least one copy may already have been sold. Street-date breaks can happen when inventory arrives before launch and a store’s point-of-sale system does not block the transaction. There is currently no indication that the reported early sale represents an officially accelerated release.

For prospective buyers, the photos also provide a useful warning about what “physical” means in this case. Anyone expecting a traditional cartridge containing Diablo IV should check the packaging carefully, as the photographed edition instead points to a large digital installation tied to a code inside the box. With the reported September 15 launch only days away, broader retail availability should clarify whether the Best Buy sale was an isolated mistake or the first sign of stock reaching shelves ahead of schedule.
