Dota 2 has surpassed 1.08 million concurrent players on Steam, reaching its highest player-count range in approximately a decade. Valve’s official Steam statistics recorded a daily peak of 1,082,992 simultaneous players on October 25, 2026, marking a significant milestone for the long-running multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA).
The figure confirms that more than one million players were active in Dota 2 at the same time. It also places the game among Steam’s most-played titles, alongside Counter-Strike 2 and PUBG: Battlegrounds. At the time of the recorded milestone, Counter-Strike 2 had reached a daily peak of approximately 1.35 million players, while PUBG recorded more than 817,000.
Dota 2’s latest peak is particularly notable when compared with its historical performance. The game reached its all-time Steam record of approximately 1.29 million concurrent players in March 2016. Although the October 2026 milestone remains below that record, it brings player activity back into a range associated with the game’s earlier peak years.

Recent player statistics also indicate that the increase is part of a broader upward trend. Dota 2 recorded a monthly peak of approximately 919,000 players in September 2026, meaning its latest peak represents an increase of roughly 164,000 simultaneous players, or nearly 18%.
The resurgence comes as other Valve multiplayer projects continue attracting substantial audiences. Valve’s upcoming shooter Deadlock recently reached a record 262,145 concurrent Steam players despite remaining in invite-only testing.
Dota 2’s player count is especially significant because the game has remained free-to-play since its full release in 2013. Unlike newly launched multiplayer titles that typically experience their largest player spikes around release, Dota 2 has sustained an active competitive community for more than a decade.
The Steam figures measure simultaneous players rather than total daily or monthly unique users. They therefore demonstrate the scale of activity at a particular moment without establishing how many individual players returned to the game or whether the increase will continue.
Valve has not established a specific cause for the latest surge in the verified player statistics. Nevertheless, the October milestone confirms that Dota 2 remains capable of attracting more than one million simultaneous players, nearly ten years after setting its historical Steam record.
