Falcom has released a free demo for Kyoto Xanadu -the Blooming Phantom- on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in Japan and Asia. Available from October 29, 2026, the demo includes the game’s complete prologue and first chapter, with progress transferable to the full version.
According to Falcom’s official announcement, the demo offers approximately five to six hours of gameplay, allowing players to experience the opening story, combat systems, academy activities, and dungeon exploration before purchasing the game.
Players who complete the demo can transfer their save data to the full game and continue directly into Chapter 2. However, downloadable content from the full version cannot be accessed in the demo.

Falcom also confirmed several conditions for transferring progress. Console players must use the same PlayStation Network or Nintendo Account when transferring their saves. On PlayStation 5, importing demo save data prevents trophies from being earned, a restriction players should consider before continuing with their existing progress.
Kyoto Xanadu follows Rei Kamiya, a student who transfers to Hirasaka Academy after gaining the ability to fight monsters inside the otherworldly labyrinth known as Xanadu. Set in an alternate modern Japan where Kyoto remains the capital, the story follows students who explore the mysterious realm.
The action RPG combines two distinct combat styles. Players explore Xanadu through side-scrolling 2D action involving melee attacks, ranged abilities, and elemental mechanics, while 3D battles introduce systems including Soul Accel, which enhances combat capabilities, and Issen, a counterattack activated through precisely timed guarding.
Outside combat, players attend academy classes, develop relationships with other students, and explore Kyoto. Classroom activities use a card-based system to improve character attributes, adding progression mechanics beyond dungeon exploration.
Kyoto Xanadu originally launched in Japan and Asia on July 16, 2026, for PS5, Switch 2, Switch, and PC. A Western release is also planned, although availability of the newly released demo outside Japan and Asia has not been confirmed.
The demo joins other recent playable previews across Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, including Winds of Viridia, which also offers an opportunity to try its gameplay ahead of its full release.
Players in supported regions can find the Kyoto Xanadu demo through the Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, and Steam.
