Arc System Works has released Phoenix Cyclops as the first post-launch DLC character for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls on November 2, 2026, alongside a major free update for PlayStation 5 and PC. The patch introduces substantial adjustments to assist and tag mechanics, improves online multiplayer stability, and expands matchmaking and training features.
Phoenix Cyclops is available as a standalone purchase for $7.99 / £6.49. Players who own the Year 1 Character & Stage Pass, Digital Deluxe Edition, or Ultimate Edition can access the fighter without purchasing him separately. His arrival follows the October announcement detailing his Phoenix Force abilities and November 2 release date.
The new character combines Cyclops’ signature Optic Blast attacks with the power of the Phoenix Force. His fighting style supports both ranged combat and close-range attacks, while collecting four Solar Shards allows him to transform into Dark Phoenix. This transformation provides a temporary power increase but gradually depletes his health.

Phoenix Cyclops also receives dedicated content across several game modes. The update adds his Fallen Phoenix battle theme, lobby avatar, profile customization items, gallery content, a new All-Star Arena course, and additional Fighter Soul and Support Soul options.
Additional premium cosmetics are available, including Classic and Legacy costumes for Phoenix Cyclops and a Joe Fixit outfit for Hulk. Individual costumes are priced at $4.99 / £3.99.
The most significant changes in the free update affect MARVEL Tōkon’s core fighting mechanics. Arc System Works has increased assist cooldowns to reduce how frequently players can summon teammates and perform tag actions during combat.
The developer explained in its official November 2 patch notes that assists and character switching had become more frequent than anticipated, sometimes making matches difficult to follow. The adjustments are intended to improve visual clarity while maintaining the game’s team-based combat system.
Standard Assemble Assist actions now have a cooldown of 180 frames, while Member Switch and Super Assemble actions use a 300-frame cooldown. An assist that gets attacked also receives a 300-frame cooldown. Character icons now provide clearer feedback about when assists become available again.
To compensate for the longer cooldowns, Arc System Works has increased Assemble Gauge recovery values. The developer says this adjustment is intended to preserve approximately the same practical gauge recovery rate despite reducing assist frequency.
These changes mean players will spend more time fighting with their active character rather than continuously relying on teammate assists. The update also improves directional dash and aerial dash input responsiveness, adjusts defensive mechanics, and fixes several combat interactions.
Perfect Reflect now grants 40 Skill Gauge instead of 12, while successful Crossover Reflect actions provide 20 instead of 10. The patch also prevents certain unintended Member Switch interactions that could place attacking players at an unexpected disadvantage.
Beyond combat balance, the update introduces several improvements to online multiplayer across PS5 and PC. Arc System Works has adjusted match stability to reduce unexpected interruptions and added an indicator showing when slowdown occurs on either player’s side.
Spectator mode receives fixes for desynchronization and freezes in online lobbies, while replay playback has been corrected to address occasional discrepancies between recorded and actual match results.
Matchmaking also receives broader changes. Selecting Nearby Regions now searches a wider area for opponents, while choosing All Regions bypasses connection-speed restrictions. Players who want stricter network requirements can continue using regional and connection-speed filters.
On PC, a new Benchmark Test checks whether a system meets the game’s performance requirements for online play. Players who pass can choose to match against other users who have also passed the benchmark. Shader warmup is now mandatory when launching the PC version, and additional performance adjustments aim to improve online consistency.
The update resets platform matchmaking preferences to All, allowing cross-platform opponents by default. Players who prefer to remain within their own platform can restore the Same Platform Only setting.
Ranked matchmaking has also been adjusted. Promotion from Vibranium to Master now requires three wins in five matches instead of four. Arc System Works says the previous requirement left fewer players reaching Master than intended, contributing to longer matchmaking times and larger rating differences.
A new rating-difference limit for Master-ranked matches is designed to prevent players from facing opponents whose ratings are significantly higher or lower than their own.
Training Mode now includes an Assist Cooldown setting and a Playback Method option for recreating battle situations. The patch also fixes Character Lesson issues involving Wolverine, Star-Lord, Ghost Rider, and Loki, alongside additional character-specific combat corrections.
Phoenix Cyclops and the November 2 balance update are available now for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls on PS5 and PC. The gameplay, matchmaking, and stability improvements are free for all players, while the new fighter and premium costumes remain paid downloadable content.
