Nintendo has officially announced two presentations for next week, starting with The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct on September 8 and followed by a full Nintendo Direct on September 9. The Zelda presentation will run for roughly 30 minutes, while the second broadcast will last around 45 minutes and focus on Nintendo Switch 2 games coming this winter. Both presentations begin at 7am PT.
The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct will air first on Tuesday, September 8. Nintendo says the presentation will feature a variety of Zelda-related information tied to the series’ 40th anniversary. The company has not yet detailed which games, projects or anniversary products will appear, so any specific expectations beyond that remain unconfirmed for now.
The timing gives Nintendo a dedicated opportunity to celebrate one of its longest-running franchises separately from the broader software showcase. The original The Legend of Zelda launched in Japan in 1986, making 2026 the series’ 40th anniversary year. Nintendo has increasingly used franchise-specific Direct presentations for major updates, allowing longer segments to focus on one series without taking time away from a general Nintendo Direct.

The following day, Nintendo will hold Nintendo Direct 9.9.2026. That presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, September 9 at 7am PT and will run for approximately 45 minutes. Nintendo says the focus will be on games coming to Nintendo Switch 2 this winter, indicating the broadcast will primarily cover the company’s near-term software lineup rather than functioning as a hardware-focused presentation.
A Nintendo Treehouse: Live broadcast will follow the September 9 Direct. Nintendo says the Treehouse stream will feature gameplay from selected titles shown during the presentation, giving viewers a more detailed look at some of the games immediately after their announcements or updates. The company has not yet revealed which titles will receive extended gameplay demonstrations.
The September schedule arrives during Nintendo Switch 2’s first full year on the market, with Nintendo continuing to build out the system’s software lineup. Recent releases and announcements have included both new Switch 2 exclusives and returning Nintendo properties, while older games have also continued appearing through the platform’s classics offerings. One recent example is Chibi-Robo returning for Switch 2 players, showing Nintendo’s continued use of older franchises alongside its newer releases.
Nintendo has not announced a complete list of games expected in the September 9 presentation. That means speculation around specific first-party projects, remakes or third-party releases should remain separate from what the company has actually confirmed. The official description only promises information about Switch 2 software planned for this winter.
The two-show format is notable because Nintendo is separating Zelda’s anniversary material from its broader fall and winter software announcements. That should give the September 8 presentation room to focus entirely on the franchise’s history and upcoming plans, while the September 9 Direct can concentrate on the wider Switch 2 release calendar. It also reduces the chance that major Zelda anniversary content will dominate time normally reserved for other games.
Nintendo has previously used September as one of its more important periods for Direct presentations. In 2025, the company held a roughly hour-long Nintendo Direct on September 12 covering upcoming Switch 2 and Switch games. This year’s approach is different, with a franchise-specific presentation followed immediately by a separate general Direct.
The company has also confirmed that both presentations will be available through its usual Direct channels, with Nintendo Today support also listed on its official event page. The September 9 Nintendo Treehouse stream will begin after the main Direct concludes, although Nintendo has not provided a separate duration for that broadcast.
The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct airs September 8 at 7am PT and will run for approximately 30 minutes. Nintendo Direct 9.9.2026 follows on September 9 at the same time with roughly 45 minutes focused on Nintendo Switch 2 games coming this winter, followed by Nintendo Treehouse: Live gameplay coverage.
