The Pokémon Company has confirmed that Pokémon UNITE will permanently end service on March 23, 2027, at 00:00 UTC, shutting down the free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena game on Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android. The announcement also establishes a timetable for ending in-game purchases, introducing a final commemorative event and preserving certain player records after the servers close.
According to the official end-of-service announcement, players will no longer be able to log in or participate in battles once service ends. Pokémon UNITE originally launched on Nintendo Switch on July 21, 2021, before arriving on mobile devices that September. The shutdown will bring its online service to an end after approximately five years and eight months.
Aeos gem sales will stop on October 27, 2026, at 05:00 UTC. Players who already own the premium currency can continue spending their remaining gems until the shutdown. New UNITE Club membership purchases and automatic renewals will also be suspended at the same time, while existing subscribers can retain their membership benefits until their current subscription period expires.

A final major update is scheduled for November 12, 2026, at 04:00 UTC. It will introduce a special event featuring Unite Coin Missions, login bonuses and a Unite Coin Exchange. Players will be able to earn special coins through activities including ranked matches and other battle modes, then exchange them for previously available items such as Unite licenses, Holowear, Trainer clothing and customization accessories.
The update will also introduce a library feature designed to preserve selected aspects of the game after its online service ends. Players will be able to view their acquired Pokémon licenses, Holowear, Trainer fashion items, achievements, boost emblems and tournament participation records. The feature will additionally retain access to the Practice Area, where players can examine Pokémon moves and Holowear effects without participating in online battles.
However, players must complete the required library data download before March 23, 2027, at 00:00 UTC. The Pokémon Company states that the necessary assets will download when players use the game normally or first access the library feature after the November update. Anyone who fails to complete that initial download before shutdown will lose access to the library afterward.
There are also restrictions on preserving the downloaded content. Library data generally cannot be transferred between devices, and deleted or lost data may not be recoverable once service ends. The Pokémon Company will stop providing support for the feature after the shutdown, making it important for players who want to preserve their collections and achievements to complete the download before the deadline.
Competitive play will continue during the game’s remaining months through Pokémon UNITE Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo. Regional qualifiers begin on December 5, 2026, followed by offline finals in Tokyo on March 20–21, just two days before the shutdown.
The tournament will feature 32 teams, including 31 regional qualifier winners and the 2026 Pokémon UNITE World Championships champion. Its announced prize pool totals $1 million, including cash prizes and supplementary awards. The finals will use the All-Star Draft format, which prevents a Pokémon from being selected again within the same match once it has been chosen.
The shutdown follows an earlier decision to remove Pokémon UNITE from the 2027 Pokémon World Championships in favor of a standalone competition. The Aeos Crown tournament will therefore serve as the game’s final announced major international competitive event before service ends.
The Pokémon Company has not provided a specific explanation for the shutdown. Its announcement focuses on the remaining service schedule, the final event and options for retaining selected player content rather than identifying a commercial or technical reason for ending support.
Pokémon UNITE’s closure adds to a series of announced multiplayer game shutdowns, including Ubisoft's decision to end Rainbow Six Mobile service in January 2027. For Pokémon UNITE players, the immediate deadlines are October 27 for premium currency purchases and November 12 for the introduction of the library feature, with all online battles ending permanently on March 23, 2027.
