Previously unseen screenshots reportedly showing an early build of Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell Remake have surfaced online, providing a rare glimpse at the long-quiet project. MP1st says the images were discovered in the portfolio of a developer who worked on the game and date back to at least 2024. Ubisoft has not officially released or authenticated the screenshots, so they should be treated as development material rather than representative of the finished game.
The images appear to show environments from Tbilisi, Georgia, where the opening stages of the original 2002 Splinter Cell take place. In that mission, Sam Fisher is sent to investigate the disappearance of two CIA operatives before uncovering a larger conspiracy. The remake screenshots reportedly depict updated streets, courtyards and storefronts inspired by the Georgian capital, suggesting Ubisoft Toronto is substantially rebuilding the original environments rather than simply recreating them asset-for-asset.
One image shows a sunlit back-alley courtyard containing graffiti, vegetation and assorted urban clutter, while another depicts a storefront selling traditional Georgian food. Smaller environmental details include torn posters dated 2004, matching the period in which the original game’s story is set. MP1st notes that the material appears to come from environment-development work, which may explain why some locations are shown in brighter lighting than players would normally expect from a Splinter Cell mission.
The screenshots also reportedly contain several Easter eggs and references aimed at longtime fans. Among the material is what appears to be an updated depiction connected to Georgian president Kombayn Nikoladze, one of the central antagonists from the original game. Other details reference elements from the 2002 release, although the early nature of the build means there is no guarantee every asset shown will survive into the final version.
Ubisoft officially announced the Splinter Cell Remake in December 2021, with Ubisoft Toronto leading development. The company confirmed that the game is being rebuilt from the ground up using its Snowdrop engine rather than receiving a straightforward visual remaster. Ubisoft has also said the project will remain linear like the original and will preserve its emphasis on stealth, observation, gadgets and manipulating light and shadow.
The developer has previously stressed that modernisation does not mean abandoning the identity of the original game. When the remake was announced, producer Matt West said the team wanted to update visuals and selected design elements while keeping the spirit of the early Splinter Cell games intact. Ubisoft later released concept artwork in 2022, but official information has remained limited since then, making these alleged in-engine screenshots particularly notable.
Development has also experienced leadership changes over the years. Game director David Grivel departed Ubisoft in 2022 before later returning to Ubisoft Toronto in 2025, while the studio has undergone wider staffing changes as Ubisoft restructures parts of its business. The newly surfaced images do not provide a release date, gameplay demonstration or confirmation of the remake’s current production status. Because they reportedly date from 2024, the environments and assets could also have changed considerably during the intervening two years. Their main significance is that they appear to offer the first substantial look at actual development environments beyond the official concept artwork Ubisoft has shown publicly.
Ubisoft has still not announced a release window for Splinter Cell Remake. Until the publisher provides a formal update, the leaked screenshots offer only a historical snapshot of how Ubisoft Toronto was rebuilding the original game during development rather than a definitive look at what players will eventually receive.
