Few games have sparked as much anticipation as Starfield, Bethesda’s first new universe in over two decades. As a massive space RPG promising unparalleled exploration and deep storytelling. Since its release, the game has evolved with updates and expansions, keeping players engaged while fueling speculations about its future.

For years, platform exclusivity has shaped the gaming industry, dictating where players can experience top titles. Starfield itself is a testament to this trend, initially launching exclusively on Xbox Series X|S and PC. However, recent rumors suggest that this exclusivity may soon be coming to an end, with the long-awaited Starfield PS5 port in play.

During a recent episode of the Xbox Two Plus One podcast, Tom Warren of The Verge revealed that Bethesda originally planned on launching Starfield’s PS5 port alongside the Shattered Space expansion in 2024. Although that didn’t happen, Warren mentioned that the port has likely been in development for some time and could be released with the game’s next expansion in 2025.

Important: This shift will not only allow millions of PlayStation players to experience the game but also reflect the broader industry trend toward greater multiplatform accessibility. A PS5 release would likely boost Starfield’s player base and visibility, extending its lifespan and influence in the gaming world.

Starfield’s Critical Reception And Ongoing Updates

Despite high anticipation for Starfield, its launch in September 2023 received mixed reviews, with criticism directed at its story, characters, and space exploration mechanics. Later, at the 2025 Game Developers Conference, former Bethesda developer criticized Starfield’s restrictive development, while God of War director David Jaffe praised its story—though players were divided.

Overtime, however, Bethesda has worked to improve the game’s reputation through continuous updates and new content. In November 2024, a major update uncapped frame rates on Xbox Series and addressed numerous Shattered Space bugs.

2025 Content Plans For Starfield And The Potential For A PS5 Release

Looking ahead, the developers have teased more content for 2025, though details remain scarce. Meanwhile, fans are eagerly awaiting news on The Elder Scrolls 6, which is in development for PC and Xbox and is expected to release sometime in 2026.

Microsoft’s shifting stance on exclusives in recent years has opened the door for major Xbox titles to potentially launch on PS5. Xbox chief Phil Spencer stated that there are no longer strict “red lines,” meaning games like Halo and Gears of War could eventually make their way to Sony’s platform.

    Starfield's next expansion in 2025 will unveil PS5 port-rumor

This change is already in motion, with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, The Outer Worlds 2, and Forza Horizon 5 set to release on PS5, signaling that Starfield may soon follow suit with its own PS5 port.

However, without an official statement from Bethesda, players should remain cautious and take these rumors with a grain of salt.
