Tokyo Game Show 2026 has canceled its final day on Monday, September 21 due to the approaching Typhoon No. 25, cutting short what was originally planned as the longest edition of the event to date. The Tokyo Game Show organizing committee confirmed the cancellation on September 19 after reviewing updated weather forecasts and the potential impact on public transportation. Sunday, September 20 is still scheduled to proceed, although organizers have warned that parts of the event could be modified or canceled if conditions deteriorate.

Organizers said winds and rain are expected to intensify during the afternoon of September 21, creating concerns about transportation disruptions and whether attendees, exhibitors and staff would be able to return home safely. As a result, the entire Monday schedule has been canceled rather than shortened or selectively modified. Tickets purchased for September 21 will be refunded, with attendees directed to follow the refund procedures of the ticketing service through which they made their purchase. Additional refund information is also expected to be posted through the official Tokyo Game Show website.

The cancellation comes during an unusually large edition of Tokyo Game Show. TGS 2026 began on Thursday, September 17 at Makuhari Messe and was originally scheduled to continue through Monday, September 21, becoming the first five-day Tokyo Game Show. Business days took place on September 17 and 18 before three planned public days from September 19 through September 21. The shortened schedule now means Sunday will effectively become the final day if weather conditions allow the event to proceed as currently planned.

Typhoon No. 25, also known internationally as Dujuan, is moving toward waters south of Japan as meteorological agencies track its development. Forecast information issued on September 19 showed the storm moving northwest before being expected to turn north and northeast, with eastern parts of Japan potentially experiencing strong winds and heavy rain as it approaches. The Kanto region, which includes Chiba Prefecture and the Tokyo metropolitan area, is among the areas facing potentially worsening weather from September 20 into September 21.

The decision affects the closing day of a show that has already hosted a number of major gaming announcements and presentations. Microsoft held its Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast earlier in the event, while publishers have also been showcasing upcoming games and playable builds across the exhibition floor. Square Enix, for example, brought several titles to TGS alongside new promotional material, including a new Final Fantasy Resonance trailer featuring additional story and gameplay footage.

Some exhibitors have already begun adjusting their schedules following the cancellation. Koei Tecmo confirmed that all of its exhibitions and livestreams planned for September 21 have been canceled, while its Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered stage event has been moved to September 20. Other Monday activities originally listed on the broader TGS schedule included stage programming and demonstrations that can no longer take place as planned.

Sunday’s program remains active for now, but Tokyo Game Show’s organizers are leaving open the possibility of further changes depending on the typhoon’s movement and conditions around the venue. Facilities or individual pieces of content may be modified or canceled if necessary for safety. Anyone planning to attend on September 20 will therefore need to follow the latest official TGS announcements before traveling to Makuhari Messe.
