Square Enix has released a new Tokyo Game Show 2026 trailer for Final Fantasy Resonance, offering another extended look at its story, HD-2D presentation and turn-based combat ahead of launch. The trailer arrives as Tokyo Game Show opens in Japan and combines new narrative scenes with footage of exploration, battles and the game’s Vision system. Final Fantasy Resonance launches on October 22, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC, with the Steam version scheduled for October 23 in Japan.
The new footage places a stronger emphasis on the conflict surrounding Rain, Lasswell and Fina as they travel to protect the remaining Crystals from Veritas of the Dark. Resonance begins with Rain and Lasswell investigating the Earth Shrine, where Veritas destroys the Earth Crystal and sets the wider conflict in motion. Square Enix describes the story as one centered on revenge and bonds, with the TGS trailer showing more of the escalating conflict that follows the destruction of Grandshelt’s Crystal.
Combat remains built around a traditional turn-based structure with several modern systems layered on top. Exploiting enemy weaknesses builds a Stagger gauge, and breaking enemies can open an Extra Phase in which players gain additional opportunities to attack. Successfully staggering an entire group in a single turn can also trigger powerful Resonance abilities tied to equipped Visions.

Visions are one of the game’s main links to the wider Final Fantasy series. These manifestations of familiar heroes can be equipped to party members, granting additional skills and access to character-specific Resonance attacks. Square Enix has already shown characters including Cloud Strife, Warrior of Light, Tidus, Lightning, Noctis and Squall, while the latest footage continues to highlight how these legacy characters are incorporated into the battle system rather than functioning simply as cameos.
The game also makes extensive use of espers, airships, chocobos and other long-running Final Fantasy elements. Summoned espers remain on the battlefield for several turns before using a finishing attack, while the world itself contains towns, dungeons and optional areas beyond the main campaign. Previously revealed endgame activities include the Colosseum, the Chamber of Arms, optional bosses and the wandering swordsman Gilgamesh.
Square Enix has steadily expanded what it has shown of Resonance over the past several months. A free Final Fantasy Resonance demo released earlier in September and covers the entire first chapter, with save data carrying into the full game. That announcement also revealed Sephiroth as an optional challenge encounter, giving players another high-profile Vision-related battle to pursue.
Additional information has surfaced outside Square Enix’s trailers as well. Final Fantasy Resonance achievements recently indicated that the main story is divided into eight chapters and includes party substories, multiple Colosseum ranks, optional bosses and vehicle-related progression. Those details provide more context for the breadth of content Square Enix has been showing in its recent promotional footage.
Final Fantasy Resonance is based on the opening story arc of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, but Square Enix has repeatedly stressed that it is not a direct port of the discontinued mobile RPG. The material has instead been rebuilt as a standalone premium game with expanded environments, redesigned systems, fully voiced story sequences and the series’ first HD-2D visual treatment. Developer Lancarse is working with Square Enix on the project.
Tokyo Game Show attendees can also play Final Fantasy Resonance at Square Enix’s booth. The event demo includes New Game, Dungeon and Colosseum options, with some of that material unavailable in the downloadable public demo. Square Enix is additionally displaying large pixel-art installations for the game and distributing themed items to participants while supplies last.
The TGS trailer is one of the final major promotional pushes before release, with Final Fantasy Resonance now just over a month away. The full game launches October 22 across consoles and Microsoft Store on PC, while Steam follows on October 23 in Japan.
