Nintendo has officially revealed the Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition, confirming the special-edition console for an October 29, 2026 release. The hardware was announced during the Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct alongside a matching Pro Controller and carrying case. The announcement confirms hardware that had previously appeared through leaks, although Nintendo had not acknowledged the products before the presentation.

The special-edition Switch 2 uses a Zelda-inspired design built around the Triforce, with black, green and gold detailing across the system, Joy-Con 2 controllers and dock. Nintendo describes the console as a commemorative model for the franchise’s 40th anniversary rather than hardware specifically themed around a single Zelda game. It represents one of the most substantial pieces of physical merchandise announced as part of the anniversary celebrations.

Nintendo will release a Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition on the same October 29 date. The controller carries the same anniversary styling and Triforce theme as the console, giving buyers the option of adding the design without purchasing another Switch 2 system. A separate version bundled with a display stand will also be available, although Nintendo says that edition will be limited to Nintendo Store, Nintendo New York and Nintendo San Francisco.

A matching Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case and Screen Protector – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition is also scheduled for October 29. Nintendo says the anniversary accessories all feature a Triforce design, creating a coordinated hardware lineup around the milestone. Pricing and broader regional availability may vary through Nintendo’s individual storefronts and retailers.

The hardware reveal comes one week before Nintendo launches its remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on November 5. Nintendo used the anniversary Direct to show the first substantial gameplay from the Switch 2 remake, which features completely overhauled visuals, expanded and fully voiced cutscenes, symphonic orchestral music, faster loading and revised controls. The remake also adds free camera movement, new movement commands and additional systems intended to make progression through Hyrule easier to follow.

Despite the close timing, Nintendo is treating the console as a celebration of the entire Zelda series rather than an Ocarina of Time bundle. The 40th anniversary marks four decades since the original The Legend of Zelda debuted in Japan in 1986, and Nintendo’s plans extend well beyond the new console. Additional announcements include anniversary concerts beginning in 2027, new Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo, Zelda Notes features, themed ocarinas and several licensed products.

The console and controller had appeared online in August through images of purported retail packaging. Those leaks showed a dark green, black and gold design with prominent Triforce elements, but the products remained unofficial at the time. Nintendo’s September 8 reveal now confirms the core hardware and establishes an October 29 release date, turning what had been a hardware rumor into a firm part of the company’s holiday lineup.

The timing also positions the anniversary system shortly before Ocarina of Time’s November launch and the wider holiday software season for Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo has continued expanding the console’s library throughout 2026, while Zelda already has a significant presence on the system through enhanced Switch 2 editions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition launches October 29 alongside the matching Pro Controller and carrying case. Nintendo has not presented the system as containing Ocarina of Time, so buyers should not assume the November 5 game is bundled with the hardware unless a regional listing explicitly states otherwise.
