Fortnite is holding a limited-time Kingdom Hearts Power Hours event on Saturday, September 19, giving every player a Kingdom Key and Sea Salt Ice Cream at the beginning of each match. Epic Games included the event in its v42.20 Battle Royale update notes, confirming two separate two-hour windows alongside increased chances for Hacker Sprite variants and special Chest drops.
The first Power Hours session runs from 2 PM ET to 4 PM ET, or 6 PM UTC to 8 PM UTC. A second session follows from 9 PM ET to 11 PM ET, corresponding to 1 AM UTC to 3 AM UTC on Sunday, September 20. During both windows, players will enter matches already equipped with the Kingdom Hearts crossover’s signature weapon and healing item rather than having to find them through normal looting.
The Kingdom Key was introduced with Fortnite’s September 17 Kingdom Hearts update and functions as a Mythic melee weapon. Players can perform melee combinations and call down an electrical attack, building on the abilities shown in the crossover’s promotional footage. Its mechanics had already begun surfacing before launch through datamined Kingdom Key details, while the finished weapon is now part of the live Battle Royale loot pool.
Sea Salt Ice Cream is the crossover’s new recovery item. Consuming it provides a health and shield burst to the player and nearby teammates, making it particularly useful when squads are fighting around the Kingdom Key’s close-range attacks. Giving both items to everyone at spawn should make the Power Hours matches considerably more focused on Kingdom Hearts mechanics than standard Override matches.
Epic is also modifying Sprite and loot availability during the event. Hacker Sprite variants will appear more frequently, while 1-Up Tokens and Portable Extractors will have a chance to appear from Chests. Those rewards normally sit within Fortnite Override’s wider Sprite and extraction systems, so the temporary event combines the Kingdom Hearts crossover with mechanics already established throughout Chapter 7 Season 4.
The structure closely follows Fortnite’s earlier limited Power Hours events. A previous Cheat Master Power Hours event temporarily boosted specific Sprite spawns while giving players additional starting items and access to rarer loot. Kingdom Hearts uses the same basic format but centers the temporary rules around the Kingdom Key and Sea Salt Ice Cream.
The event arrives immediately after the larger Kingdom Hearts crossover went live on September 17. The collaboration introduced Sora, Riku, Kairi and Roxas, with all four Kingdom Hearts skins shown in the crossover trailer, alongside gameplay items and other cosmetics. Fortnite’s v42.20 update also refreshed Loot Hacks, introduced new Match Overrides and added several new Sprites.
Kingdom Hearts is receiving competitive content around the same weekend as well. Epic’s official competitive schedule lists Kingdom Hearts Battle Royale, Zero Build and mobile cups across regions, with cosmetic rewards available through those events. Those tournaments are separate from the Power Hours and follow their own eligibility requirements and schedules.
The September 19 event therefore serves as a more accessible way for regular Battle Royale players to spend concentrated time with the crossover’s gameplay additions. Because every participant begins with the Kingdom Key and Sea Salt Ice Cream, the normal randomness involved in finding the new items is temporarily removed while Sprite and Chest rewards are simultaneously boosted.
Fortnite’s Kingdom Hearts Power Hours take place on Saturday, September 19 from 2 PM to 4 PM ET and again from 9 PM to 11 PM ET. The event is limited to those windows, with standard loot and spawn behavior expected to return afterward.
