Capcom is removing Monster Hunter Wilds’ Character Edit Voucher system in 2027, allowing players to fully change their Hunter and Palico appearances as many times as they want without paying. The change will arrive alongside Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance and will apply to all players, including those who do not purchase the expansion. Character and Palico Edit Vouchers will then be removed from the game entirely.

Under the current system, Monster Hunter Wilds allows some cosmetic details such as hairstyles, eyebrows, facial hair, makeup and clothing to be adjusted freely from a tent. More substantial changes to an existing Hunter’s appearance and voice require a Character Edit Voucher, while fully redesigning a Palico requires a separate Palico Edit Voucher. Those vouchers are consumed when an edited character is saved, with additional packs currently sold as paid DLC.

Capcom will begin winding that system down months before Ascendance arrives. Starting December 3, 2026, Character Edit and Palico Edit Voucher products will no longer be available for purchase. Instead, players will receive 10 Character Edit Vouchers and 10 Palico Edit Vouchers at no charge, giving them a large temporary supply to use until unlimited editing becomes available with the 2027 system update.

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 version is being handled slightly differently because it launches on December 4, one day after paid voucher distribution ends. Capcom says the discontinued voucher products will not be offered on Switch 2, with players on that version receiving 10 Character Edit Vouchers and 10 Palico Edit Vouchers from the beginning. Monster Hunter Wilds launches on Switch 2 on December 4 with cross-platform multiplayer and previously released title-update content included.

Players who previously spent money on the three-voucher packs will also receive an in-game thank-you gift. Capcom plans to distribute a Special Thank-You Pendant Set containing the Heavenly Hog and Beelzeboar pendants from December 3. Eligibility covers players who purchased the Character & Palico Edit Voucher: Three-Voucher Pack, Character Edit Voucher: Three-Voucher Pack or Palico Edit Voucher: Three-Voucher Pack, although Capcom notes the pendants may separately become available later.

The change removes a monetization system that has existed across recent Monster Hunter games, where fully rebuilding an established character generally required a limited-use ticket or voucher. In Wilds, Capcom had already distributed free vouchers on multiple occasions, including free trial versions and an additional free Character and Palico voucher released in February 2026. Ascendance will eliminate the restriction altogether rather than simply increasing the number of complimentary edits available.

Free character editing is also arriving as part of a broader round of quality-of-life improvements surrounding Ascendance. Capcom has been detailing changes to equipment management, combat and exploration alongside the expansion’s new Master Rank content, monsters and Skybound Eyrie locale. Recent Ascendance gameplay details include faster weapon switching, the ability to change equipment outside tents and the return of Teostra.

Ascendance is positioned as Monster Hunter Wilds’ major 2027 expansion, advancing the story several years after the events surrounding Arkveld and introducing new areas, Elder Dragons and the Boost Bracer system. Hands-on footage has also shown Araketa, Teostra and new traversal mechanics, providing a broader look at how Capcom is changing the game alongside the new content.

Capcom has not yet announced the exact 2027 launch date for Ascendance. Until the expansion and accompanying update arrive, players will continue using vouchers for full character redesigns, with the free allocation of 10 Hunter and 10 Palico vouchers acting as a bridge after paid sales end on December 3. Once the new system launches, both Hunter and Palico appearance editing will become free and unlimited across the base game.
