Marvel’s Wolverine is estimated to have sold approximately 1.9 million copies on PlayStation 5 during its first three days, according to new data from Alinea Analytics. The analytics firm also estimates that Insomniac Games’ latest release generated roughly $130 million in revenue over that period. Marvel’s Wolverine launched exclusively for PS5 on September 15, meaning the figures represent an extremely early snapshot rather than official lifetime sales.
The estimates were shared by Rhys Elliot, head of market analysis at Alinea Analytics. According to Elliot’s data, physical copies accounted for 22.9% of Marvel’s Wolverine sales, leaving the majority of estimated purchases in digital form. Around 53% of sales were attributed to the United States, followed by the United Kingdom at 7%, France at 5% and Canada at 4%.
Alinea also estimates that roughly one million copies came from digital pre-orders, giving the game a significant installed base immediately around launch. The figures combine estimated physical and digital sales, but Sony Interactive Entertainment and Insomniac Games have not yet announced an official sales total. As with other third-party market estimates, Alinea’s numbers should therefore be treated as an analytical projection rather than audited publisher data.

The estimated 1.9 million units would put Marvel’s Wolverine ahead of several recent PlayStation releases cited by Alinea. Elliot said Death Stranding 2 had reached an estimated 1.8 million lifetime PS5 sales, while MLB The Show was at roughly 1.5 million on PS5. The firm also placed Saros at around 510,000 PS5 units, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls at approximately 740,000 copies across platforms and Marathon at 1.8 million across platforms.
Those comparisons suggest a strong commercial start despite a more divided critical reception around the game. Player response has appeared considerably more positive, with Marvel’s Wolverine receiving substantially higher user ratings than its critic average shortly after launch. Sales data cannot directly explain that gap, but the estimated launch performance indicates that mixed reviews did not prevent a large number of PS5 owners from buying the game during its opening days.
Marvel’s Wolverine arrived after an unusually turbulent development cycle that included the major Insomniac Games data breach in 2023 and further unauthorized material appearing before release. Hundreds of Marvel’s Wolverine screenshots and datamined assets leaked shortly before the September 15 launch, exposing substantial portions of the game ahead of release. The early sales estimate suggests those leaks did not stop the title from generating significant launch demand.
Developed by Insomniac Games in collaboration with Marvel Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, Marvel’s Wolverine is a single-player action-adventure game built exclusively for PlayStation 5. The game follows Logan as he rejoins Team X and travels through locations including Canada, Japan and Madripoor while confronting Bolivar Trask and threats targeting mutants. Unlike Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man games, Wolverine is not structured as an open-world title.
Sony has not yet provided official launch sales figures, so it remains unclear how closely Alinea’s estimates will align with numbers eventually disclosed by the publisher. For now, the firm’s projection places Marvel’s Wolverine at about 1.9 million copies and $130 million in revenue after only three days on sale, giving the game a substantial commercial opening on PS5.
