Monster Train 2 is getting its next downloadable content expansion, The Punished, on November 10, 2026. Publisher Big Fan Games and developer Shiny Shoe announced the release date on October 28, alongside plans to bring the roguelike deckbuilder to Nintendo Switch 2, iOS and Android before the end of 2026.
The announcement also confirmed that Monster Train 2 has surpassed one million players across its existing platforms. The game is currently available on PC through Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and the original Nintendo Switch.
The Punished introduces a new playable clan led by Archus, Darkness Incarnate. Unlike traditional strategies focused primarily on keeping units alive, the new clan incorporates mechanics that reward players for sacrificing resources and allowing their forces to suffer damage.

Central to the expansion is the Monolith, which allows players to sacrifice cards and build a resource called Devotion. This interacts with Zeal, a mechanic that strengthens The Punished’s units and produces additional combat effects.
The clan’s abilities are designed around converting suffering into offensive power. Players can use these mechanics to strengthen their units through damage and sacrifice, creating additional strategic options within Monster Train 2’s three-floor combat system.
Big Fan Games also confirmed that The Punished will conclude the game’s planned series of post-launch content updates. Since its May 2025 release, Monster Train 2 has received multiple free updates alongside its first paid expansion, Destiny of the Railforged.
Destiny of the Railforged launched in February 2026, introducing another playable clan, additional challenges and a new game mode. The Punished will build on that post-launch content with a different set of clan mechanics centered on Devotion, Zeal and the Monolith.
Beyond the DLC, Monster Train 2 is expanding to three additional platforms. Native Nintendo Switch 2, iOS and Android releases are all scheduled for 2026, although Big Fan Games has not announced specific launch dates for those versions.
The Switch 2 release will add another option for Nintendo players, while the iOS and Android versions will bring the sequel to mobile devices for the first time. The publisher has not yet detailed any platform-specific features or differences for the upcoming releases.
Monster Train 2 combines roguelike deckbuilding with a vertical battlefield divided into three floors. Players assemble decks, recruit units and defend their Pyre against increasingly difficult enemy encounters. The sequel introduced five new clans and additional gameplay systems built around the original Monster Train’s combat structure.
With The Punished arriving on November 10 and three more platform releases planned before the end of the year, Monster Train 2’s final announced content expansion and wider platform rollout are set to take place during the remaining months of 2026.
